Ok this is when you know you're a true CBC. I'm watching Infernal Affairs II and there are no subtitles. I understand most of what they're saying but the I'm lost. What the hell is going on in this movie?? LOL

I need a detailed summary.

PS - I'm about half way through the movie fitting that they give the 2 CBCs in the movie pretty much nothing to say because they're just horrible at speaking it. Makes me wonder if they have a clue what's going on in the movie as well.

Hmm... all you really need to understand is that the 2nd movie is about how he becomes the boss. And that the guy who gets shot was a spy (just like in the first movie).

I am a CBC too. I don't even watch Chinese movies? They are usually terrible. Bad acting, humor sucks.

But I have been hearing a lot about this movie on this forum. Maybe it is time to rent a copy.

Is there an Internal Affairs I? Is the second one a sequel?

Is the dialog in Cantonese or Mandarin?

Infernal Affair, Infernal Affair II, Infernal Affair III.

In terms of time line, Infernal Affair II, Infernal Affair and then Infernal Affair III.

Dialog is in Cantonese.

IA2 Starts by showing how Edison Chan became entangled with the Mob. He got into it b/c he likes Mary. Mary's first task for him is to kill uncle Kwan, after which he runs off to hide in the outskirts of HK. Shortly after, he enrolls into the police academy. All this happens without Sam knowing.

Sam meanwhile is 'friends' with Insp Wong, b/c he isn't a ruthless crimelord (He's still a human in Wong's eyes).

For Shawn Yue's character, Yan, they show his seedy background with ties to the mob. This happens when Roy Cheung confronts him after the special event with two head honcho cops. He gets 'kicked out' by the academy but actually goes undercover for Wong. He infiltrates triads by going into jail and meeting Chapman To, Silly Keung (damn that guy is funny). Chapman was already part of Sam's gang, so Shawn became Keung's latke. From there, Shawn's character starts doing stupid **** for the mob, gets in trouble and has to secretly meet with Wong for info.

In TST there are several Big Brother's who run business' and pay a portion of it to Uncle Kwan. Now that uncle Kwan is dead, all the brothers are trying to skip out of these payments. Fortunately enough, Uncle Kwan's son, Hau ( played by Francis Ng), has a lot of dirt on all the brothers (stealing a partners cocaine from a warehouse, having an affair with one of the brothers wives). Poor Gandhi... he got screwd over the most. Hau's assistant, Roy Cheung, who has the curly hair and doesn't say a word in the movie.

Things seem to be going smoothly for the crime lords, while Mary is freaking out that her plot will come out into the open. She had hoped Sam could have risen up after she plotted the murder of Uncle Kwan. Instead the Ngai family still holds all the control of the crime scene.

Hau then tells the big brothers he's going to immigrate and will break up the biz to them as a thank you after all their hard work. By this time he also bring a Yan into his operations, thinking he can be trusted as they were half brothers. Yan then leaks allllll the info to Wong thru discreet meetings. They also show signs of Yan's temper as he flips out after hearing his gf had an abortion. She didn't want the child born to such a violent father. The mother/child appear in part 1 as Maggie Q (i think?).

Hau actually was planning to kill off all the leaders on the anniversary of his father's death. He even hired a PI's to dig up who killed him. He realizes that it was Mary and Wong (he had a hidden camera in a hotel room where those two met. Wong tries to put his moves on Mary as well). When Hau and his gang met up with the PI's, Wong arrests them, and interrogates Hau. Hau waits until a certain time, then opens up the briefcase with the tape showing Wong/Mary in the room. While in custody, the gang leaders are all killed (hooker w/ plastic bag, buried alive, gun shot by the aquarium). Sam got word from Mary that she plotted Uncle Kwan's death, so Sam know's he's in deep doo-doo in Thailand and fights back those crazy drug dealers. Sam takes that alien-like dude hostage and 'trusts' him to let him go. Dumb how he survived that gun shot IMO. Mary was also attacked but Edison comes in to save the day and brings her to his hut out in the boonies. Edison was saying he can take care of Mary and maybe Sam was dead already. While out there, Edison tries to get his freak on with mary, but gets ***** slapped (i hate edison, so i watched that scene over and over). Pissed, he tells the Ngai family Mary is going to the airport, so they send a dude to run her over while she was leaving for Thailand to see Sam. What a jerk off Edison is... Hau also kills off his assistant, who turns out to be a mole, and the bodyguards that left Uncle Kwan the night he died. He knew Mary had paid them off to disappear. Wong goes into depression b/c his boss now knows he had a part in Uncle Kwan's death (he was the one who told Mary to execute the plans. His hope was also to get Sam to be a big leader in TST. His boss comes to find him telling him 'its ok, we at the police station support you still. We don't want the Ngai family to control HK either'. Next thing you know his boss gets blown up in Wong's Saab.
hau gets off b/c he was in custody while these hits took place.

OK, fast fwd a bit more, Yan is now a big cheese up in the Ngai syndicate. He's doing the coke testing (impressed how he can tell the quality). Wong and Yan haven't seen one another for a while, so Wong is surprised to see Yan giving him all this info about Hau's past. Meanwhile, Hau is trying to become a politician now (or some legal position). Sam meanwhile recovers in Thailand and becomes friends with the drug dealers there. Wong goes to see him and see's Sam grieving about the death of Mary. Wong asks Sam to testify against Hau, so the two of them return to HK.

Hau gets arrested while at a political event, so his image gets screwd (Chinese officials shun away from him b/c he's triad... pfft as if Chinese Gov't isn't corrupt themselves). Hau sends his family to Hawaii, and also tries to dig up Sam's past in Thailand for some pressure points. They find Sam's 'child and wife' whom they take hostage. Hau calls out Sam to meet up and tells him, give up, i have your wife and kid. They turn out to be a servant and some kid... dunno who's kid though. SOOOO Sam takes the phone, and calls his Thai friends who were in Hawaii holding Hau's family hostage. Hau flips out, points a gun at Sam and tells him to release his family. The cops arrive shortly (Wong and Edison are in that pack) and a tense standoff begins. Then Wong shoots Hau in the forehead, pissing Yan off, annoys Sam (he wanted to die right then and there).

Sam then calls the alien-like drug dealer and says, lets release Hau's family. The other guy says, we've gone past the point of no return, we have to kill off his family. This starts Sam's decent to becoming a ruthless gang leader. They show him celebrating 1997's hand over to China, and grieving Mary still. Yan re-joins Keung under Sam's gang afterwards. Sam's an idiot for letting him in... but whatever.
Then it ends off with Edison booking 'Mary'... who i assume is the character Sammi plays in part 1.

Hope this helps Degenerate!

He has no choice. If he wants to be a cop, he needs to continue. I don't think Yan knew Wong arranged to kill his father.

I don't see how he didn't have a choice. He told Wong blatantly that he no longer wanted to be a mole and just get him back into the department and Wong agreed. Yan knew that that Wong arranged to kill his father but not from the beginning.

Anyways the movie goes on that's all that matters. All movies have holes in them and this is just one of them.

One more thing actually. Yan says that he wasn't helping Wong. He was a cop and he would do whatever he promised office Luk. Officer Luk didn't even know that Yan was a mole in the gang so how is he helping up Luk? Also I thought Luk was below Wong because you never seen Wong in a uniform but nothing other than a suit and tie. Is that how the HK police force works?? Your boss doesn't know that you send out a mole to be undercover???

Officer Luk knows. He followed Wong when he was meeting Yan on the bus.
One scene showed Yan and Luk uisng morse code (implying that they were working closely w/ each other)

BTW, Sam did not survive the gunshot. The thai drug dealer said "we were destined to work together ever since the time when the gun jammed". (the gunshot that was heard in airport = ???)

THIRDLY, the 2nd movie explains why SAM keeps wanting YAN dead in part 3. He left on a drug boat, made him beat a guy in the head etc.

For those who haven't watched it. this is the best order

Edison is definately a bad actor. All the dude does is stand there and smile. My chinese is better than this fools. He's just a pretty boy that's trying to get big because of his looks, not his acting skills.

If anyone wants the "legit" DVD's you can probably find them at your local Futureshop or at least I have seen them.

PS: I know no Asians buy legit DVD's except for me.

no way...Future Shop doubles the regular price of a regular Chinese DVD.
and you can get legit DVD's in Pacific Mall.

you're not the only asian who buys legit DVD's.
i have the whole trilogy on DVD. in fact, one of the 3 Infernal Affairs is autographed by Kelly Chen.

there's a box set coming soon. it was supposed to be out on July but i guess it's delayed.
