im looking at the canon ef 28mm F1.8 USM and its $200 dollars cheaper at B&H than anywhere in canada. But from reading reviews, im scared, it seems there is a QC issue with this lens and some are happy with the lens, others are not. Seems there is a Lens lottery with this glass.
Anyway, I'd like to PM with a canadian retailer, that way if I get a bum copy, It will be much easier for a replacement.
thanks.

Most stores will just show you the door if you try to price match with US prices.

Yes, I've bought a lot of stuff from them, including two lenses, one last year and one this year. Shipping is fast and packing is great!

My packing box was about 4 times the size of the lens box and filled with air bags. Nice and safe. Chances are cost + shipping you still save a fair bit comparing to buying it local.

Ordering from B&H is a lot easier than ever before, they show you the cost of taxes/duties at checkout and ship through Purolator instead of ripoff UPS so you're not presented with another bill when you pickup your parcel.
Seriously just order from them they have everything in stock and ship very quickly. It's not like you'll save more money by taking a drive to the US.

BH photo is good.
Check photoprice.ca for a break down on cost for both Canadian and American retailers.

Good suggestion.
Not always cheaper to buy from states now. Big lens still cheaper but I found that canon bodies if you are buying new you are likely to spend less if you go to say Aden. Or better yet get FS or BB to price match Aden.
At the end of the day i am still a big fan of buying used. I just picked up a 2nd 7D that basically looks brand new, still smells new, has 800 clicks on it all for 1300. Buying the same new from the states or from Aden would cost me about 1600 after taxes. That's a 18.7% discount for basically a new camera. If I had waited a few weeks someone's now selling a 7D with canon battery grip and 2 extra battery for 1500. And I i was faster on the draw a US seller was selling the same combo with refurbished body and 3rd party grip(and he's a trusted buy and seller on POTN) for 1200! Why would anyone buy new unless they are really deathly afraid of warranty issues? And really your warranty is only 1 year anyhow, it flies by in the blink of an eye.

There's not much difference with camera bodies and lens between Canada and US market now. I usually order other camera accessories from bhphoto. Just ordered a spyder3elite monitor calibrator from bhphoto. I paid less than $170 shipped + tax to my doors versus $299+tax from our local vistek or henrys.

+ 1
fast shipping and very good packing
Adorama is good too, you can price match Adorama with B&H (including shipping), but you have to contact them first

NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE!, well look at the canon 28mm f1.8 USM price diff. 700ntax in Canada, 509ntax at B&H in US. I Dunno, what it works out to, but its close on 35% cheaper.

Can't comment on the lens, but the service from B&H has been stellar for me so far :D
One thing about them though is that they observe both Jewish holidays and US holidays. So, not being Jewish myself, sometimes I get caught off-guard when placing orders.

Your problem is you are scared, and that is a newbie thing. You know by now that no Can. retailer will price match B&H;
You seem to think that lenses on the production line of Canon vary all over the place, based on internet gleanings, and so you are afraid to order B&H, Adorama, Kiji, CR, or eBay auction.
Good! Stay away from them, as you are likely to be a returner.
Buy with an iron clad warranty, and you'll be happier sticking it to them.

I like to call it cautious, but I guess that makes me feel better.
I did buy from Ebay, and that means no warranty, other than the ebay guarantee that it offers to qualifying sellers.

From personal experience, BH will take care of you if you are not happy with your lens.
Purchase a lens with some dust speck in it, notify them about it then receive a brand new lens in the mail in a few days, pack the old lens back and I am happy.
Just make sure you choose purolator ground.

I just ordered from B&H last week and the lens got here on Thursday (I ordered it on Monday). Really good tracking service as well.

Ive ordered from B&H maybe 6 times in the past 6 months. I believe $8.95 or so shipping everytime. Arrived at my door in GTA in 3 days flat via Purolator. Only once was it 4 days, there was a big snowstorm. Ordering from them, you still get full warranty and a hassle free 30 days return policy. Funny thing is that I even vaguely remember ordering from them exactly 10yrs ago when online shopping was just in the early stages and their product selection, price, and customer service are still as superb today as it was back then. Just no ludicrous $60 shipping charge back then.
I order from them because of their selection but also because it ALWAYS still ends up cheaper than Vistek and Henrys.

How can Canada compete with places like BHphoto, crazy.
