[Amazon.com] Sentry data FIRE-SAFE®-QA0121 (DVD's, Hard Drives): $129.97

Staples has this listed as 50% off at $129.97 but Sears sells it for $170 and FrontierPC lists it at $185 so the original price is inflated, but the sale price is decent, particularly if you can get coupons to lower it even further.

It looks like you can run a 2.5" hard drive from inside it. Some of the reviews point to concerns about heat emitted from the drive, but if you only have it hooked up for backups, that should not be a concern.

Perhaps a cheap and convenient alternative to renting a safety deposit box to protect you data, photos, etc...

Yikes, too expensive, I have a full blown large sentry fire-safe that I'm pretty sure I got from crappy tire a long time ago for less than that.

It's important to note that not all fireproof safes are rated for magnetic/electronic media storage. Most fireproof safes are rated for 350 F and are not waterproof, which will keep paper safe but will have your CDs and USB sticks damaged whereas data rated safes will keep the temperature at around 125/150 and will be waterproof so the humidity does not go above 80%.

Data rated safes are usually much more expensive than a normal safe.
