should be interesting to see what Jackson does with Kong, but he is staying true to the 1930s story.

I only wish the 1933 DVD version was available NTSC - you can only get it in europe/asia/ebay. best film ever. anybody got a copy??

I pretty sure its filming right now down under in Australia. Its stars Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black(awful choice for leading male). Andy Serkis aka Gollum will be the guy who will be motion captured to play the CGI King Kong.

yeah I thought the news was around but checked RFD search and no threads on it - still wanted to also ask if anyone has seen the recent non-NTSC dvd of the 1933 version.

They remake them because they're a sure thing to make huge amounts of money.
Same reason why they keep making sequels to Jurrasic Park.

Summary according to IMDB:
Set in the 1930s, this is the story of a group of explorers and documentary filmmakers who travel to the mysterious Skull Island (near Sumatra) to investigate legends of a giant gorilla named Kong. Once there, they discover that King Kong is a real creature, living in a massive jungle where creatures from prehistoric times have been protected and hidden for millions of years. As the explorers search for the great ape, their quest puts them up against both Kong and his dinosaur enemies. Ultimately, it is the attention of a beautiful human woman that soothes Kong long enough for him to be subdued by the explorers and shipped back to New York, where his bleak future involves being put on display in front of humans... but how long can even the mightiest shackles of man hold back an ape 25 feet tall?

Feh. I'll watch it, but what are they really going to do to make this one any different from the 1930s classic with Fay Wray, or the 1970s version with Jessica Lange? For me, the only question is which building is Kong going to climb?

Peter Jackson must have a lot of confidence in his movie to go ahead with a sequel before the first movie even comes out. I guess that's a good sign though. I hope King Kong turns out to be a good movie, but I can almost guarantee you that people will be disappointed because they expect it to be another Lord of the Rings just because it's by Peter Jackson.
EDIT: N/M it was an April's fool joke.

I am completely underwhelmed by the prospect of seeing this remake of the classic movie...
Why doesn't Peter Jackson try something creative for a change, he hasn't made a good movie since Heavenly Creatures...

Oh not at all. It doesn't matter to me whose thread is the first one or whose is the best. The only reason I bumped it was because of the trailer news.

Where are the pictures of the ape? Meh, the original wasn't that good, I am thinking it will do the same as the Godzilla RM.

They should have a scene where Kong grabs some poor sap and eats him, then exclaim, "People are irresistible when they Excel-erate their breath!"

Wasn't the sequel news posted on Peter Jackson's website on APRIL 1?
I would think twice about that piece of news.
I'll pass on this movie, its been done too many times and I didn't think much of the original nor the remake.
