When you get up, during the day or before bed? Does it matter and for what reason?

In the morning after you wake up, when your eating breakfast. This way it will get metabolized and through your body the whole day, rather than 1/2 of it.

Do you know that for fact? I honestly don't know. Just wondering. It's time to call out Tracy (daisyville) for some nutrituional talk. :cheesygri

My "crazy" theory - take it before bed. In the morning, most people drink plenty of coffee or other drinks, and thus anything you take in the morning, you'll likely pee out before noon. I figure that if you take it as close to bedtime as possible, while you sleep, your body will absorb it rather than pee it out an hour or two later.

I take mine in the morning every day with breakfast. I find if I take them later in the day my urine goes very yellow, a sign the vitamins aren't being properly absorbed. If I take them in the morning I don't have that problem. I have also read somewhere take them in the morning or at lunch, but can't remember where I heard that. I recommend morning or latest at lunch.

That's not that crazy. Body builders eat cottage cheese at night before they go to bed, so their body gets a constant source of protein throughout the night (it takes a while for cottage cheese to break down).
Or so I've heard. We really need Tracy here :)

Not sure about cottage cheese, but you have the right idea. There are fast absorbing and slow absorbing proteins..
For vitamins, I don't think it makes that much of a difference, I used to take them on an empty stomach because I heard it absorbs better. Then I checked the label and it said to take it after eating...

I'm not sure what the best time is, but I wouldn't personally take it just before bedtime.
I go with the theory that the body uses what it needs and when you're asleep, your body doesn't need too much in general. So the best time is after a workout with your meal. The B-vitamins supposedly help absorb other nutrients in your meal better too.
If you are taking the multivitamins to supplement your poor diet (maybe you are always on the go and don't have time to eat properly all the time) I would take it earlier on in the day so that you use it up throughout the day.
I'd also recommend drinking a decent amount of water with the non-fat vitamins to prevent them from crystalizing in your kidneys. One of my profs in university talked about how a big/growing problem with the current aging population is kidney stones because all these old people have become pill-poppers and not drinking enough water relative to all the pills their taking.

Either take it right before meals, during, or right after.

I read long time ago..the riboflavin makes your urine go yellow.
Personally for me, I take it before I go to bed...it takes a while for it to get absorbed (4-5 hrs?)

Vit. C does that too....I think taking it with meals is the best though, after all it says that on the bottle and it will absorb easier with the other foods.
