Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy an SLR (new or used) with a budget of around $500-600 with the lens included. Video isn't a priority for me as I already have a video camera. I was thinking of getting a T2i or the T3 deal on amazon right now, but I'm not quite sure. Thanks for helping!

Go for a used t2i. Doable for about 550-600 with a kit lens I think. It can do probably everything you would want as a beginner and has enough tricks to grow with you.

This should do:
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/canon-t3-18-55-55-250-588-usd-amazon-1064143/

You do not need a T2i/T3i if you don't need video function, T3 should be fine

What's the general feeling about the 550D/D3100/A33?

I've been reading (more watching) Youtube videos reviews and the tip of the hat goes for the Canon but there are a few people who like the Nikon and Sony as well. I don't know if the autofocus for video with the Sony is a game changer. It just seems like the Canon has the heritage and pedigree likewise with the Nikon, but why is it I see so many beautiful 550D videos more than any other cameras on Youtube? Affordable, excellent video quality and yeah, it's Canon.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I've pretty much decided on the Canon but which of these two are the better 'starters kit' ?

Canon EOS Rebel T2i Body w/ EF-S 18-55mm IS & EF-S 55-250mm IS $864.99

Canon EOS Rebel T2i Body w/ EF-S 18-55mm IS & EF 75-300mm USM $829.99

I believe the 55-250mm IS is much better compared to the 75-300mm.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Do you suggest buying from BB/FS/Henry's or is it better to jump on deals on Amazon?

I suggest reading reviews on the web first and come down with a selection of models from Nikon and Canon (and others if you want too). t2i, D3100 for examples. dcresource.com has tons of reviews and suggestions of equal cameras.

Go to the store, handle them, play with them. You might feel that one camera doesn't feel well in your hands. When I handled Canon, it just wasn't right in my hands compared to Nikon.

Narrow your selection, read more reviews and... buy the camera you want :D
