Im not sure if this is the best thread for this post, but fishing is considered a sport...

I am itching to go fishing, but I don't have a boat, so looking to fish off the shore, dock, under a bridge etc. I am in Markham and I do own a car and am willing to drive a reasonable distance for a day trip to do some fishing and catch some nice fish. looking for some decent bass, pike etc. I dont care to much for panfish, but don't mind if I can walk away with a few sunfish.

Anyone know anywhere that I can go to put my line in the water for a few hours or so to catch some fish within driving distance from Toronto???

Thanks

By Old Mill? While on the subway I sometimes see people fish there.

Many people go to Kawartha Lakes for fishing...about 1hr drive from Toronto...

Just be careful though, in the past there have been assaults of out-of-town fisherman being pushed from behind into lakes and over bridges...

Just make sure you go fishing in an area that is not privately owned.

Kawarthas is a big area. I have been there before by boat. any particular lake, or intersection where you can fish from shore on public land? there is a lot of cottages and private property up in these areas

here is the ultimate tool:

http://www.web2.mnr.gov.on.ca/fish_online/fishing/fishingExplorer_en.html

location, fish types, lake measurements, fishing restrictions.

Oh, you're in Markham. I was just at Balsam lake and saw some people walking from their campsite with fishing poles.

Try the Ganaraska River, which runs through Port Hope, about an hour away from Markham.

I don't know if I would eat the fish there, but there is usually plenty.

You can try Ken Whillans...pretty sure it's stocked...but might have a fee IIRC.
