Bit dated but new to me. Seems to be in limbo according to Gears' developers big cheese, Cliffy B.
It’s in development hell right now. Who knows what’ll happen. It took however many years for Peter Jackson to make Lord of the Rings. Hollywood is a complicated beast. There’s all sorts of weirdness going on with who’s working on it, what’s going on here and there. But, hopefully it happens. Maybe the Gears 3 success will generate more interest in it. I’d love to see it. I’d rather have a movie that’s great and true to the franchise, than a movie that sucks. I’d rather not have a movie, than a movie that sucks.
I'm of two minds about the movie. Do they push it and put out something that's mediocre or worst like Bloodrayne or wait until there's a solid script and financial backing like Resident Evil? Ok, RE wasn't that great but it has enough momentum and interest to justify sequels. I don't think it will be in the same league as Batman or X-Men, but Gears certainly has enough of a dark story to make it worth while. Regarding the story/script, I'm actually rooting for Epic Games to do it themselves; this way it ensures continuity and if I'm honest, the game's story wasn't half bad.
It would be interesting to ponder which actor/director would do this film justice. I didn't like Wes Anderson's directing on Resident Evil nor the actors. Too cheesy and rushed. If someone like Chris Nolan or Peter Jackson could direct it, then the rest of the pieces will fall into place.
