BEWARE!! I tried this place through a deal to diminish scars and stretch marks. I asked her a few times, on the phone and even when I got there, what the risks are especially for darker-skinned women (not black). And she only told me to keep using moisturizer, not go under the sun etc. The process was painful bit tolerable, but after I got home, the spots she lasered were sore, swollen, itchy, and with black burn marks!! She burned me! And even after ice packs and burn ointments, it still left black burn scars the shape of the wand tip. All over my belly and thighs. So instead of reducing strechmarks, my belly and thighs are covered with ugly black rectangles. My doctor said she should've tried one first, on the lowest setting and see how it went, and if I had no bad effects, should've come back for the full process. The girl who did the laser was incompetent and should've advised the I'll effects especially since I asked her a lot of times. Don't take her word for anything. Go someplace else where they have a licensed aesthetician or a doctor to do this process. I had 5 vouchers for this, never went back there and got a refund for the unused vouchers. BEWARE!!

Details would help as we don't really know what you are talking about.....

original deal site? city? refund process hassle at all or did they say they would investigate? did you report this to anyone?

1 time poster probably plastering the internet with this "review" that may have nothing to do with a group deal...

I purchased this voucheron dealfind on July 3, used it that week and had the awful result. I posted this now because this morning, they're havin the deal again!! The business is called Private Places Laser Laser and Anti-Aging Medispa in CAlgary, Alberta. Apparently Dealfind is not really investigating on these kinds of matter Ben though I reported it to them as soon as I can. They did, however, give me the refund without any problems. >:(

Funny how they now have a disclaimer on their website about darker-skinned women, when I asked her on the risks before I specifically mentioned my darker skin and she just brushed it aside.

Dear Kristaj, I am the owner of Private Places Laser & Anti-Aging Medispa.

I wish you would have come to me directly for a remedy, instead of seeking slander via the internet, as we always stand behind our work. There are solutions for your lingering temporary marks that we would have provided at no charge to you. Very rarely a person will experience hyperpigmentation, which is mentioned in the waiver you signed. No one has control over how any individual's skin will respond, in these extremely rare cases we always provide a solution to get your skin back to and better than normal. We have thousands of happy deal-shoppers as clients.

So you went to a laser place and did not check to see if they were qualified?
And you did not really research the treatment beforehand to know how it was supposed to go??

Well, guess it is too late for that now.

I always research anything I want to have done and try and read medical info if I can.

I'm not a cosmetic expert, but after your skin rests a bit you can use some products to fade marks and smooth skin.
For sunspots, burn marks and some stretch marks the body lotion M2 Body Refinish is great.

I used it on my arm for "age spots" (ok not age spots but had some marks from scratches that were very obvious and not going away)- you can hardly see them at all now and my skin is much smoother looking.

I also use M2 body refinish on my elbows so hey are not as dry feeling, you can also use the same lotion to reduce stretch marks.
They have a face line, but haven't really tried it out yet.
I buy the M2 products from Essential Day spa's website in Vancouver or Else Skincarerx.com or Dermstore sells that line.

http://skincarerx.com/m2-skincare.html

http://skincarerx.com/M2-Body-Refinish-15%25.html

-only thing I do not like about M2 body refinish is it is very sticky. it has no scent though.
you also need to use a sunscreen with it, a mineral sunscreen is better.

Any treatment, if done correctly and by a trained, certified, qualified person will not leave those kinds of marks or burn anyone like what happened to Kristaj. She is correct if those were the symptoms and it isn't slander if that was the result of her treatment. The technician should have advised what could happen on her type of skin so she could make the decision whether to proceed with this procedure which sounds like a laser treatment of some kind. The doctor was correct in saying the tech should have started on a lower setting and worked her way to a higher one. There may be some redness but there shouldn't be any itching, burning, black marks etc, which is indicative of "overtreating" which is basically the industry term for burning. This is NOT the norm whether or not the spa had things they could do to rectify the problem. If the client had asked several times about her skin and the question was evaded, that is the spas fault, regardless if she did other research or not.

I too went to Private Places on a coupon deal a few months ago for Velashape on my inner thighs. Even to start with it was strange. I read and signed a lengthy waiver explaining how I could be bruised/burned/infected (lovely). The technician (I use the word with a large question mark) didn't introduce herself, didn't explain the procedure, barely answered my questions and stood there while I took off my pants and laid down on a flat table without a blanket or pillow. She put some lotion on and started moving the suction device around my inner thigh. I was immediately in extreme pain, began breathing hard and tried not to scream. The technician then told me it "wasn't painful, just uncomfortable" -- I told her it was painful for me!! I said it felt like she was pushing down too hard and tried to change positions, but she told me it was too hard to get the area. I told her a few times she was pushing too hard and she finally tried a different setting and it was slightly better, but I was just waiting for it to be over. Then it got worse with the second phase being some kind of burning laser. I was told to let her know when it got too hot and say the word "hot." It got hot fast and sometimes I got one more painful zap after I said "hot." I involuntarily jerked my legs a few times when it was really painful and was scolded for not using my word ('hot'). At one point my legs were shaking uncontrollably and the supposed technician not once asked if I was okay, offered to decrease the intensity or reassure me. When it was finally over I expected to have a lot of redness and maybe even burn marks, but thankfully it was only slightly red. She did say that I might bruise, which I didn't although I can certainly see how someone could. I didn't feel any different other than I was sore for several days. I can understand that it might take more sessions to see/feel any result, but there is no way I would enter this place again. I think they're a start up using group coupons to get lots of clients, but are extremely unprofessional and use powerful/painful equipment they aren't using correctly, and certainly without any concern for the pain being inflicted. STAY AWAY. I got decent results from lapex lipolaser and it wasn't painful at all. I'll save my $$ and use that again next time.

PRIVATE PLACES LASER IS FANTASTIC!

I know plenty of people who have had Velashape Cellulite reduction done and LOVE it. They have lost inches and pounds and are thrilled, loyal customer of Private Places Laser.
Velashape can even be therapeutic for pain reduction due to muscle tension and joint pain as well as removing your fat.

 And on the same page no less. Particularly impressive that instead of addressing the multiple complaints and concerns directly, the response is simply IT'S FANTASTIC, with the implication of MY STATEMENT INVALIDATES YOURS BECAUSE I'M SHOUTING.

Please, people, stop going for these cheap laser deals.

All of them, sans exception, are unsafe hacks who do not give a damn about voucher customers.

This is one thing you never want to skimp on. Even full-priced laser clinics can be terrible - look at Dr. Woo and his Laser Clinics fraud in Calgary. Technicians hired for their looks, no competency, and they have burned or scarred me and many other people.

When you do laser pay up and do it legit. Do your research. Sometimes these places buy these machines secondhand. They are barely trained. Sometimes they go to sales conferences where complete monkeys who have only worked in retail or owned a 7-11 before are told about the huge cash-grab laser clinics are and get them to sign up to buy their machines on monthly payments. It's such a fraud-filled, unregulated market it's insane.

Research, check reviews and credentials, and never go for these desperate frauds who try to make quick cash through Groupon et al.

They have proved themselves over and over again.

I don't really understand what you guys expect. The owner tries to defend themselves, which is kinda hard in this setting.

I would understand the OP if he tried to find a resolution from the clinic and got refused to but that doesn't seem the case.
Just because the OP is dark doesn't mean he is going to get burned. Some machines are better suited for light skin and some for dark skin.
I would usually be upset with the other spectrum of the problem, if they would under treat you. Which is what i expect from most of those types of deals (so they don't lose money) but to burn you means they over treat you which tells me they had good intentions at heart.

The easiest thing to do is to make it look like they treated you and take your money. The harder thing is to treat you and hurt you while trying and the hardest thing is to treat you with maximum settings without hurting you.

Hello Owner of Private Places:
I've been client from Calgary Antiaging spa for almost a year , I'm very pleased with some of the services I've received and also the friendly employees specially Kathy the phillipino girl who is always smiling and always so friendly and very well informated of all the processes.

I've sent 2 different emails to calgaryantiagingspa@gmail.com but I havent had any answer from nobody or any call from the Spa. Also I've call the phone number 403.818.2924 and they never ever answer the phone, the voice mail is full, and no chance to leave a message.

I have a concern about the lasser treatment, I've paid one year, I've been really constant since january till now, never miss any appointment, and I havent seen any change whatsoever in my facial hair, its been more then 6 months, I paid for a year and I dont want to pay for another year just to start to see results.

My email address is pennyzoo@hotmail.com and I would apprecciate if you can contact me so I can provide my phone number to chat about it.

Thanks

I was told by a actual doctor I know who does laser stuff that your hair has different phases of growth so you space your treatments a certain number of weeks apart.
I
ve had several body parts done and needed around 4 or 5 treatments to see a good reduction of hair.
The only reason I stopped going was because I was busy and the office was far and now my skin can not tolerate anything (can hardly go in the sun due to allergies...not laser related).

also after having my underarms done now I can't use any scented deodorants only things for very sensitive skin- while before I could use anything.

hi kristaj,

im really, really sorry about your terrible marks you got from that crazy clinic in calgary...sounds like the same kind of scam places we have to work hard to avoid here in toronto.

in future, though, i have to agree with some of the other posters...you have to research carefully not just the clinic where you want to get treatment, but the type of treatment you are interested in getting, particularly for darker skin. you mention you are not "black" but you have dark skin...well, your skin doesn't really care about semantics or political correctness...darker skin (whatever race) can react violently to these invasive spa treatments--laser, chemical peels, etc. and due diligence is needed to be absolutely sure you are not scarred for life. i was encouraged by one of the dealfind spas i went to the other day to have a "green peel" and honestly even though its over $400, it did sound like the right solution for me. but there is NO WAY i'll get that kind of a treatment done without tonnes of research, talking to people, esp. people in the spa business and preferably go to a place where there is a doctor on the premises, when i'm getting it done. not to sound preachy, i'm just very cautious and that's how i would go about things for myself.

i really hope your scars heal up, and maybe you can find a reputable place nearby that can truly help you with healing those marks well..good luck :)

You are too eager to defend the OP than to defend the business, that's not fair. There are ALOT of different variables that could point the blame to both parties. I agree about research but having a doctor on hand compared to not is a complete waste (non-invasive/non-medical/cosmetic procedures). In 99.9% of the time, they know alot less about those things than the technicians who do these treatments. But what they do give you is about an increase of 100% in price. You should research the technology/equipment being used and should look for reviews on that specific place and when you come to consultation, you must feel comfortable with the people in front of you.

I really get annoyed when i see someone use the word "scam". Scam means that someone deliberately lied to you with malicious intent. This business was clearly trying to do a good job for the OP, otherwise they wouldn't have burned him. If they tried to scam him then they would pretend to treat him for like 10 times and then 1-2 years later he would come here saying they didn't burn me but i see 0 results with before/after pictures. If the next day he tried to contact the business and they closed shop, then it's a scam.

flafson, i really wasn't trying to defend the OP i tried to be fair with how i saw things. in this case i really honestly feel that a woman, seeking treatments for beauty enhancement and especially as it isn't surgical, shouldn't have to come away with permanent scars for life...she is lucky it wasn't her face! any clinic that lets this type of abuse happen to their clients, runs the risk of being labelled a scam--whether they are a reputable place or not. thanks to honest posters like this it may help ward others away, or at least be much more wary if going to that clinic for anything...
