View Full Version : CNE Whack-a-mole game Rigged at night?

I just came back from CNE and I just had a question, anyone have any inside info on them rigging the games?

I don't mean oval basketball hoops, angled peach baskets, or plates that won't break.

I mean do the CNE workers rig the machines? To play a certain style?

Last year I discovered the CNE Whack a mole game, where you need to get 450 points and you can win a large prize. None of that "win 4 times and trade up for a prize the size of your hand". Last year I played twice for $3 each and won 2 big prizes before being told to leave.

This year I went straight to the same booth, the game is only $2 because the prizes aren't as good. I won 4 times straight with ease before being told I had to stop.

Later at the night I walked by and noticed they did a shift change and there was a new guy so I went to play hoping to score more. I ended up losing $10. The machine seemed sketch, less moles were coming up giving me less chance to score and win. I switched machines and the same thing... I find it so weird to have won 4 time straight with absolute ease and then to lose 4 times straight at night. I was just curious, not that I care. I was happy with my prizes, but I guess I'll know for the future not to play at night for some reason...

they do that earlier in the day so that people will be walking around all day carrying the big prizes to make it more enticing for others to play the games...it's a standard trick.

makes sense, I was starting to think I lost my touch :S

it was really weird, less moles were coming up but I was going the same speed. Thanks!

The claw games were completely rigged. They would close half way only and made it impossible to win anything.

I remember someone posted a tip or trick sheet on rfd on how to win these games.

Games that are ALWAYS rigged.

Basketball Hoops(Balls have less air making it difficult to travel and bounce very easily.)

Anything with plates(plates are very heavy and hard to break)

Anything you have to "knock down"(most BOTTLES are weighted making them hard to knock off platform)

Balloons are usually not filled as much making it hard to pop with a dull dart. Sometimes darts bounce back after hitting the balloon.

Best games to win:

Birthday game

Fishing game(for kids)

Water pistol races(kids always win that game if facing off next to adults)

Not sure if this is the case at the CNE but a few months ago on Dateline when they had a special on carnivals. Anyway they addressed the issue of rigged games especially when it comes to how games are rigged if the carnival has to replace a games operator or if the staff has issue running a game. Aparently in the USA some carnvals that have games demand a percentage of the money a game brings in. SO what they do is the accessories are already rigged without the operator knowing so in some cases the operator might think they are legit. Now the person who reported this had their identity hidden so who knows but it makes you think.

For whatever reason I do very well at the basketball and the basket toss.

Basket toss: Like the link says, hit the top part of the basket and let it drop in. The key is to stop as much momentum before it hits the back of the basket. This trick will work if the person manning the booth doesn't know any better (which at the CNE is all possible). Aim at as much of an angle as you can. So let's say you are standing in front of 4 baskets and facing the far left one... aim instead for the far right one. You will need to throw with more velocity, but that momentum will be lost as the ball spins around in the basket. This is a carny trick that they do to show you how easy it is to get it in the basket.
