for a 1.5 yr old is there a "standard timeline" for doctor visit and a checklist for each visit? or it varies by doctor/pedi?

our doc told us since birth we had to bring our daughter in every month, is that normal? other then the periodic shots, all the doc does is measure weight, height, head size, which takes like 3mins not even. Just wondering if everyone take their kid in monthly?

This is the schedule our pediatrician follows for our son, who just turned 2 years old last week:

birth, birth+3/4 days, 1 mo., 2 mos., 3 mos., 4 mos., 5 mos., 6 mos., 9 mos., 1 year, 15 mos., 18 mos, 2 years.

Our next appointment after 2 years is 30 months (2.5 years).

I would say if your daughter is growing normally (no big swings in the growth chart), you don't need to visit the pediatrician every single month after the first 6 months. Take her in only if there are concerns about her health or if she is sick.

I thought monthly was excessive too! but ours says all her baby-toddler patients have to come in monthly or go somewhere else....

she is our family doc too, so I'm thinking if we switch to another pedi she won't be our family doc anymore either...

I don't have kids, but I know of friends with newborns and they do go monthly . I am not sure what they do, but if you don't feel that you are getting the care she deserves, then you can think of seeing someone else. If the doctor gives you a hard time, you can file a complaint against the college of physicians and surgeons.

there is TONS of info on the web about this. Doing a Google search, I came across this link on things a doctor should do:

You may want to just ask her nicely the reason for keeping the visits monthly after 6 months. If it's just to record her weight and height and head circumference, then there really is no reason for those visits. Maybe she is trying to bill OHIP more than what she would be able to bill if the babies don't have monthly visits after 6 months.

Most good doctors in Canada will follow the Rourke Baby Record. Monthly visits just to measure ht and wt seems a bit excessive for a newborn (unless they had some problems). Is your pediatrician not busy enough?
