I found an ipod touch on the ground soaking wet. Trying to find owner i located a guy on kijiji who lost one in this town but its not his. Got a cheap data/power cable from monoprice to power it up, the data on it might tell me who owns it. It started to charge but its in recovery mode, windows hardware wizard doesn't know what software to use. Its also very hot. I don't know anything about apple products and a few searches just confuse me more. I don't know what firmware it had. It only displays a picture of a cable and the word itunes. Also the screen may be unresponsive, briefly before it ran out of power it wouldn't register any touches.

Is there any way to see the data without wiping the ipod? (might get a lead to owner) Judging by wikipedia its an 8 gb 2nd Gen ipod touch. I thought it would be relatively straightforward but its turning into a pain. Do i have to use itunes... etc Thanks in advance.
