I can't wait to see the double elimination and also the "hazard" playcard. I wonder how the playcard will work? According to Wiki, it is a "penalty that one team will incur right at the starting line and that they will have to complete before checking in at the Pit Stop". So I guess the second last team in the previous leg will get a "hazard"?

I think that whole part was set up by the producers. There's no way those people would know the girls are on the Amazing Race unless the other contestants or the producers told them.
Seems like a promising season so far. I didn't expect to see the Hazard and double elimination so early in the season. Quite exciting! :)

A couple of thoughts on the first episode.
1. There should be no Survivor winners on the contest because they already won $1 million. Lets not be greedy and give someone else a chance to win a million bucks.
2. The Chinese woman who won won the first leg with her partner said, "I feel so Asian", during the Dragon boat race. Huh!!?? What the hell did mean? That she was NOT Asian?!! She is definitely Chinese because she said she went to seven years of Chinese School, yet did not know what the Chinese words say on the billboard. Perhaps she identify herself more with Western people than Chinese people and that is why she has a white boyfriend.

I am not shedding any tears over Ethan and Jenna being eliminated since they already won a million dollars a piece from Survivor.
As for episode 2, it was an interesting show, given the twist of not donating ALL of the money in their possession costing most of the contestants.
It was really sharp of the snowboarders to see the fine print on the sign. Most deserving of them to win the 2nd leg.

I didn't really expect E & J to do well so wasn't surprised when they were eliminated 2nd week. Did you see their seasons of Survivor? Ethan just got through because he was a nice guy and Jenna got through by taking her clothes off (not that I complained). They both won but are hardly extremely competitive. Also in addition to them both already winning $1m she got another mill when she did Playboy.

It was obvious flight attendant couple would be eliminated - they got tons of airtime on the first half of the show.
Likewise, with the amount of facetime Ethan/Jenna got compared to the premiere, it wasn't really a surprise either.
That was really by-the-book reality television editing.

I agree. If more than 50% of the teams make a mistake like that, then it isn't really fair.
And Cindy is getting on my nerves. She knew she was ahead of the pack and then became so melodramatic at the end. And stop with all the Asian stereotypes as well! My God. If you were truly an "Asian", you would have not cried and just completed the last task without any complaining. I personally liked how Ernie handled the entire situation and completed the last task without any complaining.

The twist was fine... people always complain about racers being held at the mercy of their cabbies. Teams arrived at the Roadblock (and couldn't really make up any position like your usual bungee/rappelling/climbing task) depending on their cabbies on this leg. The twist let them lose/win on their own terms.

I was thinking the same thing about the clues being harder... But, now I am just thinking that the contestants are STUPID. Take 5 minutes to read the glue and you will figure it out. Funny how they were counting ALL of the statues which weren't even budhas. The range was really silly. The big football guy was super lucky that the guys gave them that clue! as soon as I saw the twins fall behind and it was obvious they would be last, i turned to my wife and said this is going to be non-elimination. There is no way they can eliminate the show girls then the twins in back to back weeks...
sure enough... non-elimination.
anyone else think that that the non-elimination legs are decided once they see who is going to be last?
or are they truly set in stone before the race begins?

I think I felt it was going to be non-elim because they brought in the "farewell music" and very final sounding comments from the twins ("great experience, "sorry to have to go", etc.) well before the rest of the teams finished. It felt fake. That and it had been a few episodes since the last non-elim. Then it was confirmed when Phil engaged them in conversation after saying they were last to arrive but without saying they had been eliminated.

I think they decide them on the fly to keep in contestants that they want to. The last to arrive MAY be eliminated has always bugged me, would much prefer each leg to have an elimination.
I see Jenna is not too impressed at how their elimination was portrayed lol:
Anyone watching the program would have assumed -- as we did in last week's "Reality Check" -- that foolishly losing the bright yellow clue cost them dearly.
In truth, they were undone by a cab driver who kept getting lost and repeatedly had to stop for directions. They fell so far behind that briefly losing the clue wasn't even a factor.

Got me curious so I looked it up.
Per Wikipedia:
BJ & Tyler finished 1st on the last 3 legs of TAR9.
Colin & Christie finished 1st 3 times in a row in TAR5 (also 5 out of 6 legs, the other leg being 2nd).
Rob & Amber finished 1st in the first 3 legs of TAR11 ("All-Stars") and then finished last the next leg.
In TAR13, Ken & Tina finished legs 2-4 in 1st and then Nick & Starr won legs 5-8 (4 in a row) and 6 out of the last 7 to win overall.
Meghan & Cheyne won the last 4 legs of TAR15 (and in the last 8 legs never finished worse than 2nd).
Louie & Michael won 3 times in a row in TAR16.
I think that's all of them. So the record is 4 (Nick & Starr and Meghan & Cheyne).

You would think the contestants would read the rules clearly... why did the team think that they couldn't travel on first class bus. If the rules said "no first class air travel" then I would know that rule. The other teams could have picked up a bunch of time too if they asked about an express bus (money aside). It is interesting because the rules do seem to be a bit different between Amazing Race Australia vs. the american one. I am almost done season 1 of Amazing Race Australia and a team got a penalty for using a first class bus.
Also, I don't like Ernie and Cindy at all. I hope they get elimated. What is with Ernie yelling "you were the worst drive ever" to the taxi. Plus, they were trying to rip off the guy. If the fair was 4500 baht (and they all seemed to be charging around that) then that is about $150 american dollars according to the conversion I just checked... vs. $100 USD that they were offering. Yeah, I am sure they could have negotiated cheaper (in advance) but they didn't.
Also interesting to see the twins not beg for money from locals.

Additionally, they were acting as though the US Dollar should be accepted everywhere, like an international currency. Although, the USD is accepted quite broadly, it is not an international currency and one should still be respectful of local currencies.
They also acted poorly when asked about paying the rightful amount, acting as though they were being screwed. We only saw the edited version, the cab driver never seemed comfortable with accepting the $100US from the couple and was within his rights to ask for more (equivalent to 4500 baht) or demanding payment in baht.

The teaser for the next episode lacked a real controversial angle or outrageous behaviour.

It was likely covered over in the past when Islam took control of what is now Indonesia, either by Moslems attempting to eliminate local Hinduism or by locals trying to protect their sacred site from invaders. It was likely "rediscovered" when Dutch colonial rule was established.
Also interesting to see the twins not beg for money from locals.

I just got back from Thailand (incl Bangkok and Phuket)... and the songathew drivers were hosing the racers with their 4500-5000 bhat tabs. Most we paid for any songathew ride was 500 bhat up and down a mountain in Chiang Mai. (Vientaine-Bangkok 12 hr sleeper train is only 760 bhat) Granted, Ernie and Cindy were hosing the driver with their USD/THB conversion.

It just amazes me the amount of times people get lost while finding thier next destination. That must be the number one reason teams get eliminated. Like last Sunday with Cindy and her boyfriend, and the father/son team. Both teams were lost but Cindy managed to find the pitstop ahead of the father/son team.

I can see why E&C U-turned the B&C but if they used their brains, they should have U-turned the surfer boys because they're the strongest team so far. B&C should also have U-turned the surfer boys.

Just got back from backpacking in SE Asia, and realized most of my friends had no sense of direction. And put them in a foreign environment and they're further clueless... let alone lacking in common sense.
It was surprising the first day or so - but after that I was like ***** it... i'm leading the group and figuring out the directions for everyone.
And if you read the TV Guide interview; Z/L knew they were going the wrong way in Copenhagen... but the city was inundated with rain just before that leg, so many freeways were closed, so they couldn't A) turn around so easily and B) even the directions locals gave them were useless, due to the road closures.

I wonder if Cindy and Ernie will be punished for not having train tickets. They lost their tickets at the train station but got on the train anyway with the rest of the teams. If it as up to me they would be eliminated since it is like cheating. Not only cheating but riding on transit without a valid ticket is illegal in most parts of the world.

It's amazing how mouch trouble the father/son repeatedly had navigating short distances. It's obviously much easier to circumnavigate THE ENTIRE PLANET. :-0 (Wonder if they bumped into either Pole en-route?).

I don't want to defend Z/L again.. but if you read their TV Guide interview, Copahagen was washed out by rain just before teams arrived in the city... so there were dozens of freeway and road closures. (If you re-watch the episode you'll notice a lot of empty lanes, and giant detour/caution stickers placed over road signs) So even when locals gave them directions, it wasn't that useful since said routes were closed off by the rain.
I don't like Bill and Cathi's chances for the next leg.
No sign of them in the previews....
And more importantly, no nighttime shots of their talking heads @ the next pit op. They showed the 4 other teams bundled in their jackets, out in the nightime cold, talking bout Legoland, bodybuilding, etc....
Bill and Cathi's one talking heads moment was shot during the daytime and it wasn't related to any specific task on this leg.

But then all of the other teams would have been in the same situation, too, right? Maybe that one day in particular was really bad, but Z/L regularly made mistakes, whether it be not reading the clue completely, or rushing through something, or not getting good directions, so it was only a matter of time until one of their mistakes caught up with them and caused them to be eliminated.

Ernie and Cindy were first on the Copahagen leg, and started the next leg at 9:01 AM
Jeremy and Sandy were the last team to start this leg at 12:08 PM. Even B/C and the surfers in 2nd and 3rd started a good hour and a half behind E/C.
And remember, all teams (except Marcus/Armani) were held up by the hours of operation at the Copahagen tower the last leg.
Z/L had poor navigation skills - but the 3 hr spread from 1st to 5th, suggest that most teams were severely affected by the road closures.

The TAR curse striking again? :?: At least it was just rain this time and not earthquakes or tsunamis.
They showed the bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden, even though the racers didn't actually use it. Hope it's not going to suffer problems now...
I guess we're lucky that the show has largely ignored Canada, other than a brief drive down the QEW from TO to Lewiston. (The boring stay-at-home season).

The only team confirmed for the next leg is Ernie and Cindy, because on the preview Phil said they will continue to race. So any penalty (if there was any penalty) from boarding the train without tickets had no effect on their progress.

As jcon said, Bill and Cathi were the only team excluded from next week's preview.
Also, we already saw Marcus and Amani checked-in for this leg, and receiving their first clue for the next one.

Are you talking about the "to be continued" episode that will be shown on Nov. 27. Since we don't know the outcome of this "to be continued" episode, are we sure Bill and Cathi are eliminated? The only thing clear is Phil saying Ernie/Cindy will be racing beyond this 2 part episode. Are you reading too much into this "excluded from preview" thing.
On the other hand, it is hard to believe that Bill/Cathy will survive the bodybuilding test since they got so low scores.

You're being facetious right?
You're telling people not to read too much in the preview - yet you're using Ernie and Cindy' scene in the preview as evidence they made the next leg....:D You can't ignore how:
* We already know Amani and Marcus are still racing - they got a clue from Phil on the finish mat
* We know the 3 other teams (sans Bill and Cathi) are still racing - cuz they're all featured in new tasks for the next leg.
On the other hand, it is hard to believe that Bill/Cathy will survive the bodybuilding test since they got so low scores.
Actually, Bill and Cathi are still racing in the new CBS.com preview:

Lol.. just admit you're wrong... Phil only says "you're still racing" to Ernie/Cindy, but that doesn't discredit footage of the other teams racing on the next leg. :D

Looks like the call was right, even if the use of online resources in addition to the show (by some) was cheating a bit.

Perhaps Bill should have kept the Mustang for the race to Brussels. With his newly-perfected aggressive driving skills it could have been like a scene from Bullitt. :D

Then again, if any Belgian civilians had got run over during the high-speed chase it would have been more like Death Race 2000.

Wow, theres being eliminated and then theres being eliminated this way...
This absolutely the worst season finale of the Amazing Race and I dont even care for the snowboarders but being eliminated this way it just doesnt seem fair.
The show doesnt really show how the drivers got to talk to each other and Im surprised that two cabbies going one way and the other going elsewhere and they all agree to go with the lone driver? It doesnt make sense... why not all go to Balboa???

Show is 100% luck based. Ever since that season (i think it was season 3 or 4) where one of the three final teams was 6+ hours behind the leading two teams and ended up winning because of flight delays I have had zero respect for the show and I feel like getting involved in favorite teams and players is just a waste of time, because some idiot cab driver or some stupid flight delay could cause the CLEARLY best team to lose.
100% luck based, I would rather go play a slot machine then watch amazing race. Same ****, different pile.

Wow... worst elimination round ever. I get it, the snowboarders messed up; but so were the other 2 teams (or were going to). How in the world the show let the cab drivers talk to bail the other 2 teams out is beyond me. To be fair, they should have made it a 4 team final.

Hahaha I love the ending.
Snowboarders kept bragging how they were "lucky", "couldn't believe their luck", etc... how they always finished first. And there were multiple times where they didn't arrive at the Pit Stop first, but checked-in first due to mistakes made by other teams.
So their "luck" runs out on this leg, and all their "fans" start whining about the rules on FB and Twitter. Ay-carumba... it's like the groupy Cowboy fans complaining about their elimination last season.
Kent (from last season) basically owned some of the "fans" on TAR's FB site :D :D :

I'm actually okay with this elimination.
At the beginning, I actually thought it was unfair that there was "time sign in" sheet to fill in before the finale race. I'm surprised no one complained about this. I think it's so stupid to have this sheet when all the teams started the leg in Panama together.
The cross talk between taxi drivers may seem unfair but its beyond what the camera men can do on TAR. When they are filming the teams on the tasks, the taxi drivers can still freely talk to each other behind the scenes.
Also, how come no one complains about Armani and Marcus taxi driver? Their taxi driver brought them to the wrong place. That appeared unfair to them.
At the end, I'm okay with anyone winning...they all seem like deserving teams.

Have to agree that you can't really complain at the taxi drivers talking to each other. Not like that's really the teams fault. Most of the race is based on luck, and relying on locals to get you to the right locations anyway. I could tell the snowboarders were going to get eliminated based on how much emphasis they put on their "luck" throughout the episode.
Will be cheering for A+M in the final!

Why is everyone talking about luck during this past episode when luck had nothing to do with the snowboarders being eliminated.
They were their own worst enemy when they were so hasty in misreading the clue at the Dancing Women Square. If they had spent more time in trying to decifer the clue, they would have been in the final three. Why rush it when they were clearly in the lead. Instead they jump to the incorrect conclusion.

Yeah, but 2 of the 3 teams that followed also were going to head to 'Bulboia' whatever that statue was... but then were corrected by their taxi drivers; hence the 'luck' factor.

It was also that "luck" factor that made Amani and Marcus go to the wrong location. How come no one backs up Amani and Marcus.
And I totally agree with LonesomeDove. The surfers were in the lead and had time to actually read the clue. Instead they were driven by their egos rather than by their heads. My guilty pleasure was actually seeing the surfers lose their lead. At least they both won a Ford Mustang!

I disliked E+C as much as anyone, but they ran pretty much a perfect last leg so deserved to win. Dunno why Phil said the map task could shake up the leg, seemed pretty straight forward and a pretty tame leg on the whole. Fairly average season but still enjoyed it personally.

The finale was pretty much anti-climatic 25 minutes into the episode when Jeremy and Sandy went to the wrong location, "The Dump". You knew they were finished no matter how the Amazing Race producers edit the show. There was no suspense what so ever. And you knew Marcus and Amani won't make it either when they took 12 attempts to complete the simulator task.
Same as like The Amazing Race 18, the winners and losers were determined by incompetent taxi drivers. It just ruins the show. I wish they would make alternative to taxis. Like them driving their own cars. Or if that is too risky, let them use bicyles.

Were you watching the same episode as me? The taxi drivers did nothing to effect the outcome in the final leg. They didn't know the locations and the contestants were left to find it out themselves. E+C did better online research and told the taxi driver where to go, where as J+S just trusted some random dude in a car which had them ending up at the wrong place.

OK, so childhood obesity. Good cause. But in "emerging markets"? Sounds more like an investment term but OK, I get the meaning. But is obesity a real concern in poorer countries? Common sense would tell you obesity is more of a problem in developed countries, where food is cheap and abundant. Isn't famine more of a concern in developing countries? I mean, fight famine over there, childhood obesity at home, no? What they're planning to do seems backwards.

$1 million won't go far to combat the spread of McD-style junk food across the globe. That's what's causing much of the childhood obesity, both here and abroad. And here at least it's the poor who suffer from it most. (Mothers are too busy working to have time to prepare proper, healthy meals, etc).
