With no hockey this year, i've been forced to watch baseball, anyone catch the yankees/twins game last night? Was pretty good, i've been hoping for the yankees to win since 9/11, even if they do have the largest payroll in the league.
Also rooting for the cardinals in the NL, didn't know they had Larry Walker...

Gosh, that game was good
But i'll state the obvious: Nathan , left in too long... The twins woulda had the series with that win...
But like someone told me: "Twins have what they want. They split the games in NY, now they just have to execute in Minnesota"

We all hate Yankees this time of the year, but by the end of october, we could always count on getting some comfort seeing Boston miss it one more time.
Yankees looks like the only slim hope for stopping Boston this year... GO YANKEES!!!

The twins won the first game last year too vs the yanks and then lost the next 3. Although the twins Sanata this year looks unbeatable, they'll prolly get one more win in minnie, and then lose in 5 in new york.

Very entertaining game indeed but I couldn't keep my eyes open (I was so damn tired) to see the winning run :( I love these kinds of baseball games when it's so close and all it takes is one smack or one error.
I too hate Boston and their arrogant beanballer, Pedro Martinez.

go Boston, break that curse
also i didn't know shawn green moved over to 1st base for the dodgers, has he played there before the majors? i've always seen him as an outfield guy

I read somewhere (I think SI) about many ppl breaking the curse...
Some guy was hit by a foul ball in Boston who lives where Babe Ruth lived back then... Or something like that, and ppl visiting Babe Ruth's grave.
Stupid ground rule double rules... Twins shoulda been up 2-0... it was wrapped up for them :(
Santana looks unbeatable, yes. He won 2-0 even without his best pitches.
GO TWINS GO!

Yes. Everything seems to go what I want.
1. Boston is 0-2 in the series.
2. Yankees is still Pedro's Daddy. :cheesygri A pitcher I dislike.
3. StL leading 1-0.
4. Mussina did not get his 'perfect' or no hitter game. Another pitcher I dislike.

Hard not to like to Yankees, it's like watching an all-star game. With the amount of money they spent, they better win.
So if Ted Rogers wants to win he should learn from George and buy a championship team instead of developing talent in the farm system.

If I can choose, I prefer a team like Florida won or Angels to win. Not many all stars but play as a team.

I would say that's more of a reason to dislike the Yankees. Their payroll was 4 times the Twins...I mean, it's not even fair. What fun is it if the same teams can buy their way to a championship year and year?

Its the very same reason why I think hockey should have a cap in place. Its fun for about one season to watch a juiced team beat the crap out of everybody, but after that, its no fun.

Go Houston! I hate the Rocket but the Astros have sucked for too long.

Yankeess completely ruin baseball. They really need a salary cap in place... I mean, if you wanna attempt to stack your team like the Lakers tried... Then have your players take a pay-cut... See what they think about it.
And like someone said, their payroll is large. Many times more than the Twins.
They should have DESTROYED them with their talent... but they barely beat em, i'd say. If it werent for the mistakes the Twins made, it'd be Boston vs. Minnesota right now.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they ruined baseball. Just as they've developed Yankee fans, they've also developed the Yankee haters...always brings a nice David and Goliath match up...although I think this year St. Louis will give them a good run.

The Yanks absolutely POUNDED the Red Sox's last night...it was just UGLY. Oh how things could have been different if Schilling's ankle tendon wasn't torn.
I think the Cards could give the Yanks a good run too. They have an awesome lineup, but their pitching isn't that great. Also, the whole inexperience thing could play a big factor

I think Schilling should pitch tonight, Pedro game 5 and Lowe in game 6.
Then, you put in Schilling/Pedro for game 7 like the Johnson/Schilling duo back in the Diamondback days......

I'm rooting for St. Louis.
1) I hate the American league (DH rule forces pitchers to be one-dimensional athletes, and, I feel, there is far less strategy involved as a result of the DH
. . .)
2) Larry Walker is Canada's best non-pitcher to play the game, ever. He
deserves a World Series ring; he was completely screwed when he was in Montreal.
I'm not convinced St. Louis' starting pitching will be good enough to handle
the Yankees though. That said, offensively and defensively speaking, St. Louis has no worries.

My wish was for Astros vs Red Sox for the World Series and Roger Clemens would win game 7 at Fenway Park.
With the win tonight I can only hope that Pedro can steal one for the Sox tomorrow. From there I don't think the Sox can win in New York. We'll see. Will be some great baseball. I just hope they could shorten the game a bit.

Hard to say, he's won a lot of Cy Young Awards, but that doesnt make him the greatest to play. My vote would go for Pedro, but he's lost it, i wish he were the same Pedro in his early seasons (w/ Expos + Red Sox)
The win last night was pure Ortiz. I've got that man in my Fantasy Playoff Pool, he got me to be #1000/70000 players.
But I've seen some terrible decisions that have been made. The only GOOD move he's made is switching the batting order (Cabrera for Bellhorn). Bellhorn leads the freaking league in strike outs... and he continues to strikeout, postseason is no exception. You DONT put someone that strikes out so much 2nd in the batting order! I'd like to see Pokey Reese get a chance rather than Bellhorn...
Also, I question some of his decisions when it comes to replacing pitchers... For example, Leskanic was pitching to Sheffield!? Leskanic got rocked... But then again, your bullpen is so small... The score was only 6-6 at the time. The homer by Sheffield off of Leskanic opened it up and the Red Sox got pounded that night.
And Mike Timlin in for Derek Lowe? Derek Lowe was pitching fantastic, the best I've seen from him the entire season and he gets pulled after pitching 5 full innings?!?!?! Mike Timlin has a fastball, thats about it. I dont see any other movement from his pitches. MAYBE a sinker...

Many experts believe Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson are the greatest pitchers of all-time. You can also add Lefty Grove into that mix. However, the odd writer has made a case recently for Clemens.

That does not make me to like him even if he is. I am critical to anybody who bean batters on purpose. That includes Pedro.
The one I like is Ryan although he also had his shares of bean balls.

Roger Clemens has been dominant since his inception into the Majors. There will always be arguments as to who will be the greatest ever and all arguments will usually fail. You simply can't judge who's better than who in total different eras of baseball. The game has changed, pitchers have changed, hitters have changed.
There is little argument that Clemens is definately the greatest pitcher of his era and his career spans what, over 2 decades??

Yeah, most argue he's definitely in the top 10, and at the age of 42, he had another great season.

I now know why everyone calls him Gay Rod. That move was incredibly stupid.
How likely is it that someone will have the ball SLIP out or CRAWL out of a hand/glove? That was absolutely ridiculous... I'm very thankful for the great umping performed last night.

It is very possible. What ARod should do was to do an Albert Belle and ran into Arroyo with 2 elbows up. That is to run him over. That is legal. If his body (instead of his hand) hit the glove and the ball came out, he won the case.
Also, if his body shielded his hand slipping the glove from the home base umpire (e.g. using his right hand instead of left hand), he could have got away from that. The body of the first baseman shielded the first base Umpire already. There is no instant replay in baseball.
By the way, I think there is a possible reason why the First Base Umpire said ARod was safe even though he did not touch the first base. The First Baseman was blocking the base without a ball. In other words, it is kind of obstruction, the umpire can grant him the base even though he did not touch it.
