This weeks Canadian Tire flyer, has the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 (175/70R13) Winter Tires priced at $102.99.
If the pricing for the other tire sizes, uses the same pricing matrix across the board, this would make this a very good deal.

For people in Winnipeg, the same tire will be $95.53 after the mail-in rebate from Michelin.
Rebate starts October 1 to November 30, 2011.

It's a good price, but not terrific. Costco's pricing is around the same when they have their tire sales.

You can usually get better pricing from local tire shops likes tires23 or simplytire.

1010 has the 215/60-16 at $122 per tire. CT's reg price for the same tire is $177....25% off works out to $133 per tire. 1010 has the better price for this size.

+1 to that; the Altimax Arctic are very well reviewed (best in class at Tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+Arctic)) and Consumer Reports rated them second only to the X-Ice X-Ice Xi2 [corrected my mistake, thanks for pointing it out]. For about half the price these are really very good.

In addition to 1010Tires, it's also worth checking out JCWhitney; got my set of 205/60/15 from them last year for ~$320 all in, including shipping to Burnaby.

Just checked again; the 205/60/15 are still US$327 this year, the 215/65/16 mentioned above would be US$443.91 all in (works out to $111/tire) including taxes and shipping.

CR: That should be Xi2. The X-Ice is a different tire all together.

JC Whitney doesn't work well for larger tires (some sort of "oversize" shipping charge)...my "oversize" tires are 245/75-16 (stock is 255/70-16).

My 02 Civic DX has 14 inch wheels. As you go higher trim and higher end cars, the tires will only get bigger. I suspect only like the old school Geos and Fireflies would have 13 inch tires.

I go down to the US quite a bit and usually save huge dollars on Winter tires there, long as I have been there for over 48hours I have no problem bringing them back no duty or anything.

Sure hope so. X-Ice was a complete waste of money. Might be good on ice but total loser on snow. Ask at Costco if they've ever had any complaints about the X-Ice if you want to hear the tire employees laugh. I won't touch another Michelin product.

Try the Bridgestone Winterforce. Reasonable price and very good snow perfromance. For GTA folks, price shop with simplytire.com. Prices include everything but tire tax and HST. Alan is +1.

Yes, if you are planning to keep your vehicle for the next several years. Mounting and dismounting the tires on the wheels twice a year will ruin the inner bead and you may lose the seal. I think Costco or Canadian Tire sells inexpensive steel wheels....make sure that the bolt configuration and offset match your OEM wheels. May be a good time to down size the rim if you can clear your brake calipers (usually when you have 17 inch rims or larger like Infiniti G35/G37).

Active Green and Ross stores are hit or miss....think that they were on either W5 or APA investigations on their car repair services....some of the stores didn't do very well at all (eg. their mechanics recommended repairs that didn't need to be done...all on TV). Research which ones are the good ones.

Last tires out I went with Blizzaks as they are always rated high, but like any top tire the cost is high to match. I found the tire to feel soft in the coldest weather which good tires are designed to be. I don't myself think they were outstanding as they wear extremely fast, when the temp gets up over 10 degree's celcius take those puppies off. Deep snow traction also wasn't outstanding, but most manufacturers now make their tires softer for grip and don't give you the big deep grooves of ten years ago. They may perform better overall...but they last no where near as long so they cost you more money in the long run.

For rims I would suggest picking up a separate set.

First I am hearing that the X-Ice was not so good, Michelin has always been an excellent quality product.

Just got a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks WS70 225/65/17 at Costco. $714.52 taxes in and mounted. They currently have a $70 rebate on 4 tires until the end of the month.

It's the cheapest I've found for that size. I could opt to go for the US route but I would be only saving ~$150 if I don't declare the tires coming back. We declare everything anyways and I'm pretty sure they will tax the tires coming back. With duties and taxes from the US, it would be much of a savings down there anyways.

Based on past experience, I am guessing two to three times each winter season. At least once early in the season...anytime from now to mid October. Goodyear Nordics are in the same boat.

If the price at 1010tires isn't much different, I would just order it there....and save the hassle of dealing with CT and their staff (ie. misplaced order, wrong tire, old stock, etc.). In the past year, I have seen a local CT trying to sell a 5 year old winter tire on clearance (I knew that tire very well since I had it fail in the first year or two due to sidewall bulging).

Any reputable tire shop. I think that the cost to mount and balance your four tires is about $60-$80 in Ontario....this price range has been posted before. I had paid about $80 here in BC....plus another $20 per tire for studs.

I run X-Ice tires on my Honda Civic and they are excellent. I live in Edmonton which is colder and more ice than snow. The tires last a long time as well since I've been running mine for 2 summers now and they still have good tread left.

It's not just the tread pattern....it's the rubber compound and the tire construction (belts, etc).

Hit or miss with an unknown brand. If they are made in China, I put my $$ on a miss....too bad. Live and learn I guess.

I just got Bridgestone Blizzak WS70s 205/55R/16 for about $760.xx all in. It was about $165 per tire + $5.84 levy per tire. I got a $70 rebate as its in effect until Oct 2, 2011. I decided obviously to hold off on the mounting, but to just pay it now ($15.00 per tire), so i wouldn't have to worry about it later on.

The Michelin X-ice Xi2's will have rebates after Oct 2, 2011. It will be $70.00 as well. Theperson at costco told me it was $183 regular, so minus $17.50.

Costco does an initial mount for $15.00 per tire which includes balancing and nitrogen and what not. If you have two sets of tires with rims, switching them will cost you $6.00 per tire, and I believe that will include the balancing as well. If you have two sets of tires, but one set of rims, that will cost about $11.00 per tire to change.

Just called customer service. Their tire website went live on Monday. The first 100 orders get a $100 gift card.

There is no way to know if you are eligible until your order is processed and later on you will receive an email.

I highly doubt that there haven't been 100 orders across Canada since Monday. I will pass and still buy my tires in the U.S.
