My headphones just died. The sound cuts in and out when i touch the plug. I could try connecting another end on them but I'll take this opportunity to upgrade a bit. I'm not an audiophile, I only use them to watch movies when the family is asleep and i like closed over the ear type. I currently have the Sony MDR-XD200 and they are okay for me but can get hard to wear for longer movies.

Anybody have any suggestions for new headphones for around $50. I live close to the border so i can easily hop accross if there any good deals across the border.
So far i have heard good things about the Audio Technica ATH-M30's. Are there any others that would compare to these?

Thanks in advance.

Steelseries and Corsair headphones are pretty good and they have models in your price range.

Any time I buy headphones under $30, I get the same problem as you stated above within 6 months. :(

Here's a review of 93 over the ear and on ear headphones from a respected user at Head-Fi. He has the broken up by prices and near the end of the very long post he has a table that summarizes his opinions. While no one is going to agree with all of his ratings, most people seem to agree with him most of the time.

He has also reviewed 197 in ear monitors for those who might be interested in this type:

These are hard to find in Canada, but are readily available in the US.

You said you are not an audiophile, but these headphones have a strong following now beacuse the signature is amazingly good for its price.

Search this model on head-fi.org and you will see what I mean.. and it's not hype.

The AKG K77 should work pretty well for you. They are very comfortable and of course, all AKG headphones meet the quality standard. Over-ear/closed.

Thanks guys. I had pretty much decided on the audio technica but now I have a lot reading to do. I'll do some research into the Panasonic and AKG see how they compare to the audio technica m30's .
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Did some research and narrowed it down to either the Audio Technica ATH-M30 or the Sennheisr HD202-II. Any words of wisdom from the community on which would be better. Or even a different pair?
