Hey everybody,
I have a first gen iPod Touch, and it's on it's last legs. The battery runs out in a day of standby time, and well, it's just about time I had an upgrade, period.
Pretty much my only question about the latest model of the iPod Touch, is... is the rear camera the same as the camera on the iPhone 4? or is it the same crappy one as on the iPhone 3GS? If it is completely different, how does it compair to the iPhone 4 camera? I ask mainly for video recording purposes. I know I should just buy a video camera, but I also need a new MP3 player, and Android phones just don't cut it for playing music. The iPhone 4's camera is good enough for me, as far as video goes.
Thanks for your help! :D

No, it's not the same, it's significantly worse. No autofocus is the biggest issue, as well as poorer low light performance. It does take 720p video, but again, lack of autofocus and a less-sensitive sensor make it worse. If you take video during daytime mostly, it's not that bad. If you shoot in darker environments and like close-ups, you will notice a big diff. Also as good as the iPhone 4's battery is, the iPod Touch does not last very long, especially if you're doing pics/video. While we're on the subject, the screen is not the same either. The iPhone 4's screen is the same resolution, but uses an IPS display with great colours and viewing angles. The Touch does not have the same vibrancy of colour or viewing angles.
The iPhone 4's camera for video is still one of the best. It's not 1080p, but low light performance is good (for a phone), autofocus works well (the SGS2 hunts like crazy) etc.

The iPod Touch 4th gen rear camera is not "crappy", it's just not as good as the iPhone 4's camera. It still captures HD video, and does HD still photos.
What is a bit crappy is the sound quality of Touch 4th gen. It's sub-par, noticeably worse than the classic iPod (I have both). It just doesn't have the same depth, probably a combination of poor bass response and inferior stereo separation. I guess they can't work miracles when they're trying to make the circuitry as tiny and low-power as possible.

Thanks for the help guys!
Not sure if I want a 4th gen iPod touch now. Maybe I will see if I can find a cheap 3rd gen, and then save up for a proper video camera.
Video cameras are so bloody expensive though >_<

Even a really bad HD videocamera is WORLDS better than the iPhone 4's camera (not trying to poo-poo it, the iPhone's camera is amazingly good ... compared to other phones).
Honestly, my GFs $150 pocket camera (I think it's a sony, maybe Lumix) does 720p at a level that makes it look like Hollywood quality compared to her iPhone 4 ... my iTouch is even worse.
