once signed up for this, can you access the 50gb storage space from a regular computer, or does it have to be accessed from a mobile device?

Anyone know if this place is reputable and secure? All this cloud storage screams security problems with your personal info.

Splitting files seems like a good idea, but how would you join them on an apple device or touchpad LOL

As a Touchpad owner, I can tell you I use my 2GB Dropbox account far more than my Box.net account. The 50GB of space is nice, but the usability is nowhere near as good as DB.

Is it possible to have 100 GB in one account (if you own an IOS device and a TouchPad)? Or will you have 2 accounts with 50 GB each??

Lol! Here's the text from the blog post..

As evidenced by the overwhelming crowds during past iPhone and iPad launches, it’s clear that our lives revolve around mobile. That’s why we’re happy to announce that we’re giving away 50 GB of free storage to anyone who uses a Box Personal account on an iOS device. That’s right, it’s 50 GB in the cloud completely free, forever. Your 50 GB of storage isn’t just limited to your mobile device – you get it anywhere you use your Box account, like on your laptop at home or your desktop at the office.

This promotion starts at midnight tonight and runs for only 50 days, so get your free space in the cloud by following these steps:

Visit the app store and download the Box app for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
Log in to your account or register for a new one directly from the app
Start sharing and collaborating in the cloud
(optional but recommended) Tell the world how you’ll use your 50 GB with the hashtag #Box50GB

They're a legit company as they've just raised $100 million in funding and apparently had a much higher offer as an acquisition, but turned it down as per Forbes report. I don't think I'll be saving any files that contain any personal info unencrypted on this or any other cloud service though regardless of the company. Just my .02.

+1. Got the 50 gb with my touchpad and got one of those accounts that has a 1gb file limit (as opposed to the 100mb standard). Even then I pretty much only use my dropbox account with 3gb.

dropbox is sooooo much better than box.net that I am actually considering paying for the upgraded accounts, even though I have a free 50gb from box.net.

Is there a native Touchpad app for Dropbox?

No, but dropbox works with the Touchpad synergy feature. So there is no need for an app for any documents/music etc.

Otherwise you can get dropboxify, which is not optimized for Touchpad (is designed for the WebOS phones), but it works just fine.

after signup, can anyone confirm that you can access this from a regular desktop computer? I never use my ipod touch with files..

also, the 100mb per file limit is pretty bad... is there any benefit of box.net over Minus.com? (besides 50gb limit, which you'll never reach anyways)
