Since when is this a prohibited item in Canada? Did a quick google search and didn't see it being restricted. I could be wrong but this wasn't exactly a 10" knife they were sending but a small little replacement blade.

I don't think It Is although usually dangerous/sharp items/packages don't go through! Seems like no one else got It so what else could be the reason!?

I have bought knives from ebay that have gone thru customs, so customs is not the problem

All samples now gone.
By the way, customs WILL DEFINITELY let something like this go through. It's safe to ship, and is not a prohibited (or restricted--although knvies do not fall into this category) weapon. In Canada, blade length is not a criterion for making a knife a prohibited weapon. So a sword is as legal as a penknife, when it comes to possession (i.e., not carrying it on your person--there are other considerations in such case).
What they WOULDN'T let through are knvies classified as prohibited. The most common knives that would be prohibited are switchblades that are spring-assisted or can be flicked open with centrifugal force. Some dealers do sell this in Canada, but if police sees you with these, you will be charged for possessing a prohibited weapon (an AK-47 is also a prohibited weapon). Other knives that are prohibited include push-daggers, constant companions (i.e., belt-buckle knives), shurikens, etc.
I hope this clarifies things.
PS: In case people are wondering what the difference between RESTRICTED and PROHIBITED weapons are, here is a quick explanation. A normal citizen can possess a RESTRICTED weapon if you are properly licenced to possess one. Examples include pistols, revolvers, and certain rifles (e.g., AR-15). PROHIBITED weapons are a no-no for pretty much anyone except law enforcement or the military. Examples include automatic firearms (e.g., H&K MP5), silenced firearms, shurikens, automatic switchblades, and mace spray (designed for humans and not animals).
