I never could quite understand the thank you button for Redflagforums, personally I don't care for it, I was wondering what is the purpose for it and do people really care how many times someone has been thanked?

It's to acknowledge that someone has been useful and helpful in a thread without interrupting the thread with a message that says 'thanks' and contributes no other content.

obviously you care enough to make a thread about it.

Is there a way to unthank someone that you accidently thanked?

Seriously? The number of thanks means nothing here. It's not a big deal.

i don't like this feature very much.
there are l***** on the forum who actually think that it means something and look down upon people with low or no thanks.
there are also creeps on the forum who openly ask to be thanked.

I just wish we could see the actual posts we've been thanked for. I've gotten thanked for 26 posts and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I contribute nothing.

This sort of makes sense, though I still see thank you's in threads. I've thanked 29 people thus far on this forum for the record last I looked, sometimes I do it just because I like someone and not for what they posted, meaning there isn't any true critaria.

Yeah +1, maybe it's the same people pushing the thank you button. Get the popcorn out. :D

When some members were blatantly soliciting for ' thanks ' in their signature, that was a bit over the top IMO.

there is a button. your thread has been moved to 'site comments' forum, where thank yous are allowed.

Personally, if I posted a cool deal, freebie, or contest and nobody acknowledged it or said thank you, I would think no body cared for it which makes me not inclined to post it again if the deal comes up again in the future.
Another thing is, for example posting contests, it's nice to be thanked, plus when I enter contests, I click on the button so I don't have to go through the hassle of writing thanks as well as indicating that I have already entered that contest.
Same with freebies, I click thanks so I don't accidentally sign up for that freebie twice.
Thanked button is also a good way for replacing the "+1" that so many people use, and the thread kind of fills up with so many +1's, which can be kind of annoying.

I want to thank Acid Bomber for moving the thread to the proper area,
Btw it was a honest question, perhaps just conversational, but I am a person of my word, anyone who posts here today will get a bump from me.

this is the worst. I've seen several losers on the forum put in their signature "PLEASE CLICK THANKS IF YOU LIKED MY POST" or something lame to that effect.
It's stupid that there's no way to see WHICH posts were thanked though, I agree 100%.. Why won't they let us see which posts were thanked?

You too DD, actually you are one person that brings it here on Redflags. But why do we have to thank people? Can we not having a rating system for posters?

You need to edit in the clause about forwarding it to five friends and so forth. Feel free to thank me for that reminder.

That is the worst. "I could have just posted this to be helpful to the community, and appriciated the thanks that would have occured naturally, but I'm so insecure I must insist I get my reward! (and by reward I mean something that has no value, but is nonetheless they way I choose to measure my self worth)." Sad.

I remember last time someone asked this, there was a response that it was currently not possible for some reason, I can't remember why. It would be good to know, even just to satisfy random curiosity. I know occasionally I will see a new thanks and can't for the life of me think of what I would have said lately that was either helpful or appreciated. :)

Oh, are both of those related to thanks? I never knew. I was sure e-pen was related to post count, or who makes the most money, or has the hottest (imaginary) girlfriend, or something like that. ;) In any case, it looks like my e-rep (or perhaps e-pen, though I hope not) is also about to increase, to whatever level comes after senior member. I should go chill the e-champagne. And, no, ippon, I will not be in need of your services.

the reason why you can't see which posts you got thanked for is because RFD still runs on fisher price computers.

No deal. And anyways, you're too late...See? Wow, what a letdown, and here I was sure that getting that extra little circle under my username would be the answer to everything. Is this it? Where's all this increased e-rep and e-pen I've been hearing about? I feel no different. Oh, so disillusioned. :( Hmmm, well, if post count didn't do it, perhaps I should solicit thanks to see if that really is the key to increased self-esteem (wow, even typing that in jest made me feel dirty).
Edit: So, it's deal addict, is it? I'm not a deal addict, I'm just a social deal user, and I can quit anytime I want to!

well, why not just have a bunch of member names in your sig instead to show publicly how much you like them? that wouldn't look needy at all. it's perfectly normal behaviour.

Granted..........I don't have the 34 ' thanks ' as you do....but I'll see if I can add the same kind of value to threads as you do (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/since-when-stating-someone-particular-race-infraction-1074014/4/#post13369523)

What need am I looking for by having a few names in my signature? I must have missed that.
The thanks system either needs to be used properly or completely removed.
If people aren't using it as intended, as in to replace all the +1 or 3 word replies, then why is rfd still using it.
A large majority of other forums use Rep systems, I don't know why there are soon many insecure people on here to go against it so aggressively.

Everyone who posted last night in this thread was thanked, some multiple times by yours truly, it seemed like a silly excercise, but in all seriousness do we need this feature?
I like the idea of seeing who thanked a post, as seen on other sites. Think it would give more credibility to those who have been thanked, those who accumluated many thanks.
Anyway I don't know how constructive this thread has been, but atleast maybe the Redflag Admin staff will look into updating it's software.
Thanks,
P.S don't thank me. :)

Of course we don't need it. We'd rather see you spam the +1 countless times. If people knew about the thanks feature, maybe it would actually be effective at reducing the +1 spam that you contribute to.

Come to think of it, there was another guy who did that - ullyeus. He had a "gang" in his sig, as he called it.
Haven't seen him post anything lately...maybe he kicked.
