Ok so this is what happened.

I took out my hard drive from my system to pop in a friends harddrive to format it and reinstall the ps3 software since he was having issues with his. I did all that got his system working and so on. Put my hard drive back in my original ps3 turn it on and it says something about the software not being able to load and to restart to see if it fixes it. Restarting does not work and it wants me to reload all the software on it.

What happened? I did not touch my hard drive just removed it and put my friends in and then put mine back in? Also is there a way to backup my saved games? Specifically my GT5 progress?

Thanks

i dunno...maybe the hard drive is "locked" to your friends PS3 serial number now? Might have to call Sony or something...
Worse comes to worst, you might have to reformat your own hard drive.

I don't think sony locks their hard drives they allow you to switch hard drives.
You could try two things
Put your friends hard drive back in see if that works. Then puts yours back in and see if that helps. If it doesn't hard drive could have possibly died
You could try a system restore but It may DELETE everything on your hard drive.

To do a system restore

hold on the power button til the ps3 turns on
let go of the power button
hold onto the power button again til it turns off
let go of the power button
hold onto the power button til you hear 2 consecutive beeps
let go of the power button
select 'system' restore option 3 i believe
that may help
