Nothing but gratuitousness and gimmicky grandstanding.
INEXPERIENCED / NEWBIE client ' before and after ' testimonials are more meaningful IMO

maybe this is a big scam. he used to be fat but is now fit and is using it to gain publicity/money :)
i dont think anyone can get that fat in 6 months unless all they ate were weight gainers.

He uploaded weekly YouTube videos along the way, so it's definitely legit.
Gross, but legit.

Pretty good publicity stunt. Given his past drive for fitness I have no doubt he will be back into his former self in no time.
Thing is most people don't have the same motivation and will fail. Genetic predisposition is certainly a factor as well.

I've gained that much weight in 6 months before - when you stop working out and switch from chicken/veggies/egg whites to delissio pizza/chicken wings/beer you gain weight extremely quickly. I was 185 and competitively rowing when I went to university, and left rez at probably 265. Sitting at 300 now, but can go down 40 lbs-50 lbs in 2-3 months fairly reliably (as in I've done it three or four times now). It requires complete focus and 100% dedication though, which means I basically put all my effort into that and nothing else. Hard to keep up everything else in life when you're doing that.
It literally comes down to this:
• Only eat the following: Chicken Breast, Egg Whites, Veggies (Spinach, Lettuce, broccoli), Protein Powder, extremely minimal carbs at lunch (i.e. a baked potato plain).
•*Do 1 to 2 cardio work outs a day - 45 minutes running morning (or 30 minutes on an erg), 1 hour on a bike afternoon, 30 minute strength (free weights), 30 minute yoga/abs/stretching (obviously work up to this, take a day off when your body needs recovery, etc)
•*Proper vitamins, tons of water, supplements as required/desired
Do that and stick to it absolutely religiously and you'll shed like you could never believe. You wont have a free moment in your day though.
Anyway, point is I'm not surprised he did this - when you trick your body like this it yo-yo's very nicely. Many say this is how Tim Ferriss did his examples in the 4 Hour Body (which is a solid read for the info, true or not it was entertaining).

Why no fish, lean beef, dairy, nuts, fruits, etc. ?

If you're able to set aside 45 minutes to run in the morning, why not just do the same for the erg - i.e do 45 minutes on the erg instead of only 30 minutes?

I should have prefaced that by saying I'm in no way a fitness pro, I'm just saying what has worked for me in a situation similar to this.
I don't eat fish, and find if I let too much dairy in I go overboard and lose it. Extra Lean ground beef seems OK, nuts as well but again I go to much. The key for me is to be able to eat the same 3-5 meals every day, over and over, for months at a time. It is extremely boring but you have to do it (in my experience) or you mess up.
As for the running, I find if you're ergging full out you can't go as long as running. To me, erging feels like a significantly better/faster workout (Try to maintain under a 7:30/2km and you'll be hurting... my fastest back in the day was in the 6:25-6:30 range)
Anyway, point is, 99% of people don't have the time to allocate to this sort of "project". I don't either at this time, but I will again in the future. I also have to stop entering eating competitions, lol.

All you do is go as hard as you can running for 45 minutes and when you erg, just do the same thing, go as hard as you can on the erg for 45 minutes. So, you simply go for the same duration of 45 minutes for as hard as you can - dead simple.;)
