View Full Version : Best episode to introduce The Big Bang Theory?

I can't decide. I want to introduce TBBT to a friend of mine, but I don't know which episode to pick. An episode where it's easy to understand, with no back story (no need to have seen previous episodes), but represents the "best" of TBBT, comedy-wise. Any ideas?

That is actually perhaps the most boring and uninspired episode of TBBT.

Then the second. They're all pretty awful IMHO, but you said no back story wanted so one of the first two ensures it.

Honestly, I don't feel like watching any episode requires backstory. I watch the nightly reruns on CTV which are always out of order and from different seasons.
The plot is pretty much "there are four guys who work at a university who are really nerdy and this woman Penny is Lenard's on and off girlfriend".

The plot is pretty much "there are four guys who work at a university who are really nerdy and this woman Penny is Lenard's on and off girlfriend".
To an extent, that's true. But the last two seasons (especially since Amy Farrah Fowler) have been the best episodes overall (IMHO), but they required a lot of back story, like who's Bernadette, who's Amy, and some storylines continue in subsequent episodes (like Amy's friendship with Penny and Bernadette).

01. S1E04: The Luminous Fish Effect
02. S1E07: The Grasshopper Experiment
03. S1E10: The Loobenfeld Decay
04. S2E03: The Barbarian Sublimation
05. S2E06: The Cooper-Nowitzki Theorem

Whatever OP picks... avoid the first pilot before they revamped it with Penny, Wolowitz and Raj. I'm surprised the show got a second chance after that debacle.

maybe show your friend the episode where they all had to dress up like superheroes in a comic bookstore. They were the justice league, that episode cracks me up.
