He's clever. The rest of them get so mad at him, it clouds their judgement and they end up overbidding for junk, leaving the good stuff for him as they're tapped out.

Haven't watched it. What is good about this show?

two things i like

1) the cool things they find and when the experts give info on them...very informative :)

2) the various personalities on the show

with that said this weeks ep was great :D

auction hunters is ok..but i find it repetitive because the show surrounds the same two guys

Barry is my fav from Storage Wars -- he'll be Brandy's sugar daddy before long

If the units are up for auction because the owners didn't pay rent, and they had all this valuable stuff inside, why didn't the owners just sell some of it to pay the rent? The entire premise of this show seems flawed to me.

People lose track of things, move away and forget about it. It's like saying all these people that find "priceless" items at garage sales, why didn't the owners of these items go and sell them?

The owner may be dead. The owner may be in prison. The owner may be in senior home and forgot about it. The owner may have left the country. The owner may be living in different States now. The owner may not know the value of his own stuff. The owner may simplify forget about it.

One thing the show did not show is the item was actually sold at the "stated" value and how long it will take them to sell it. These guys just estimate the value themselves. It does not mean they can sell it at that price.

They actually mentioned on one of the episodes. The owners receive numerous notices before it's up for auction. At a certain point, they are legally locked out of their own lockers

In the show, they more or less only sell the stuff to the "expert" who appraised the value. e.g. the expert says "this worth $3000 if you find the right buyer, I can offer you $2000 now. Of course, you can try selling it yourself."

However, it does not happen often. Not even once per episode. The expert does not buy the stuff most of the time. Most of the time the one who bought the locker is the "expert". "This rocking chair $70. This xyz $50. This abc $200. ..."

I like this show too... started watching it late, but caught up pretty quickly with those marathons.

The counter always adds up the highest value of whatever the item it... an expert might say, "this is worth roughly $1,500 to $2,000". Then you see the counter go up $2,000. Makes you wonder what they really make at these auctions.

IMHO, I like Barry. He definitely brings a lot of humour. Even though everyone hates him... I like Mark Balelo on the show too. Nobody is more of a character than that guy!

Mark is a tool who seems like he only goes to these auctions 2-3 times a year. The best is when he says "this is why I buy storage units guys" then commercials then comes back and sais the NES he found is worth $13,000 then he gets it appraised by a guy who says about $10 cause it didn't work.

Him not getting $13,000 had nothing to with the console working or not. The 13K one sold with a rare sealed game. http://kotaku.com/5470923/mom-sells-old-nes-and-5-games%E2%80%94-for-13105?tag=stadiumevents

That's just it... people love to hate him and that's why the show needs to bring him back... in small doses. Week after week, his persona will get boring fast, but once in a while like a hurricane that leaves a path of destruction and gone just as fast!

If there's one person who I don't like, it's Darryl. At first he was likeable. He helped out others, was somewhat knowledgable and even played a few pranks. But now he seems so bitter. He verbally attacks others and for no reason, even his own son called him out on it.

The Texas version and even the Shipping Wars show are both very unwatchable.

Was last nights second episode the season finale? The ending seemed sort of like a "farewell" of some sort.

According the Wiki it was. It could be the last time we see Dave:

Dave Hester, "The Mogul", owned Newport Consignment Gallery in Costa Mesa[5] and Rags to Riches thrift store until he closed them in mid-2011. He now operates Dave Hester Auctions. As is required by law, he will not sell weapons from a unit he has purchased, turning them in to local authorities for destruction. Hester sometimes drives up the bidding to assert his dominance and has a son named Dave Jr. who has appeared on the show working alongside him. Dave's signature move is to bid loudly, "Yuuuup", seemingly at the last moment, sometimes maddening the other bidders. He even has the slogan imprinted on his truck and a hat.
At this time, it is not immediately known if Dave will remain part of the cast, as he and A&E are in a disagreement over A&E's alleged mistreatment of him.

I say replace him with Mark Balelo!

I didn't mind the Texas version but I don't see it lasting. I like Dr. Moe but I can't stand Victor. He thinks that because he's from New York he is smarter than all the "hicks" from Texas. Funny how he keeps getting shafted by Ricky and Bubba who are actually very smart about their bidding. The woman, Lesa, who talks like Elmer Fudd is just annoying. As for Shipping Wars, I watched the first couple of episodes and was bored with it. It probably won't last, just like those hog hunting shows.

According the Wiki it was. It could be the last time we see Dave:

Dave Hester is a major league ******* but I have to admit that if he doesn't come back then the show won't be the same.

I say replace him with Mark Balelo!

They won't use Mark. They have been showcasing Nabila Haniss for the last few weeks. She is a major league buyer much like Dave Hester but without the arrogant attitude. I noticed that Dave Hester minds his mouth when she is around. She is obviously somebody he respects or he is at least intimidated by her.

There were at least two episodes where they reference "stripping"..Jared often wears a t-shirt with a silhouette of what looks like a stripper on it...on the "Unlocked' interview episode, Jared mentions he met Brandi at work but doesn't go into detail and says "I don't think I should mention this"...

Also, people online have posted that they remember Brandi dancing at a particular strip joint in L.A...put those things together (along with her bangin' body), and it's not hard to figure out......

Uh it's scripted? Then maybe they should put a disclaimer on the show explaining how this supposed reality tv is actually fiction. It really takes a lot of the charm of the show away when you think that all the stuff they find is planted. And I don't know if I'd make a career out of it but I'm sure that more than one person thought about how cool it might be to attend one of these auctions to see what you could find.

***Update April 20th, 2012*** – Dave Hester is currently involved in a lawsuit over his famous catch phrase “Yuuup.” Dave was recently granted a trademark for the phrase but unfortunately R&B star Trey Songz. Trey Songz claims he has has been using the phrase “Yuuup” since at least 2009. The problem is that both Hester and Songz are using the phrase to make money off clothing lines and merchandise. A New York judge is reviewing both cases and will make a ruling in the coming months. More details in this article: Trey Songz Sues Dave Hester Over “Yuuup!” Catchphrase

I like Storage Hunters better. The auctioneer hangs out with the winning bidders and they display their purchases right away.

i cant believe someone likes storage hunters better than storage wars lol.. it is soo terrible.. the only have decent thing about it is the auctioneer.. but its soo rigged and fake, even more so than storage wars.. i just watched two episodes last night and it was pretty bad.. supposedly always fat hick ppl getting in fights with each other...auction hunters on the other half, i actually enjoy a lot because they always talk about how much they can see to make in the locker, then bid up to half.. and always actually sell the items, not just a mystery value on the item...

I loved the episode when Barry raced the old lady in her scooter. Dave Jr comes off like a huge wierdo...just like his dad

Ton Jones and the other guy (I can never remember his name) are good as a duo and the items are pretty interesting...they seem to find a lot of weapons though...LOL!

It is cool to watch them fire the weapons...

I watch both when nothing else is on, but the fact that they are fake and largely scripted takes away the fun

Look at Cajun Pawn, a guy just walks in looking at selling 3 old American Bills, $5000, $10 000 and one other, and the owner offers him $500 000 on the spot..............REALLY, this would never happen, the fact that the guy ONLY needed a loan against the bills doesn't make it real, he may have brought in one bill for safety reasons.

What a mess, but some of the stuff is neat.

This show is entertaining, but it just goes to show you, how nowadays you can make a reality TV show about anything. Is it just me, or does anyone notice how they overvalue everything when tallying up how much they "made" off the trailer. Sometimes the prices they list, I ask myself who would buy that junk for that price, lol.

Yeah, that 20 tube tv is worth $50, that Sylvania food processor is $30, and that pack of cards is worth $15.

The best ep. Is when the guy finds a nes and swears it worth $1300. Turns out it doesn't even turn on... Lol

Saw some more today. Apparently crappy picture frames are worth $40 lol. Who would pay $40 for an old picture frame!! I wouldn't pay anymore then $4 for what he showed.

The estimated value of the recovered items are way too high. No way anyone would pay so much for common USED household items.

Completely agree with you, I think people watch more for the personalities (Barry, Brandy ;)) Then you have idiots such as a guy I know who is going to quit his job and "buy and sell storage lockers and make big money".

He sold his business and started his own auction house. I am not sure how bidding for a locker can help his new type of business venture.

From what I have read Dave will be back, he was probably busy with his lawsuit vs. "Trey Songz" over the "YUUUP!" copyright.

Also heard he was asking A&E for more money per episode...maybe he's not on the show until they finish up those negotiations.

I heard they're getting $10,000 each per episode, and I guess no one else had a problem with that amount besides Dave.

I think pretty much everyone knew the show was staged to an extent, but I didn't expect it to be as watered down as mentioned in that article.

i liked the last episode at the end:

Barry opens up a bottle and pours it into a glass, drinks some and says: "Brandy tastes really good - awkward pause - The drink! The drink!"

staged but still funny.

I find the show to be pretty entertaining but it really bothers me when they find an item that has a retail price on it, and they think it can be sold for that price. I mean if people wanted to pay prices like that they would go to a retail store and not a thrift shop.

I tried watching 1 or 2 eps of Texas and that turned out to be a complete joke. The cast is complaining about the lockers being too expensive when it cost them $3-400?

For me I like Dave the most on the show. Sure he can be annoying but he makes smart decisions for the most part and gets the most out of his investments, staged or not. Darryl is more or less on the same level as Dave, makes quality buys and gets a good return.

I find Dave > Darryl > Barry > Brandi & Jarrod to be the most interesting.

After seeing the show, I don't think it's fake (as the producers mention, there are a lot of boring auctions which don't air). That being said, I'm sure that due to theshooting environments (outdoors without external lighting, crowded/cramped environment, fast talking, etc.) there are probably a lot of reshoots of things that actually happened.

That's sad. As I mentioned earlier in this thread:

Even though everyone hates him... I like Mark Balelo on the show too. Nobody is more of a character than that guy!
