Hey guys,

I'm currently in Grade 11 and I just dropped Physics.
I took all 3 sciences this year thinking I was going to pursue Sciences as a career, but ended up changing my mind entirely to business. Next year, all my courses are business oriented, so I dropped physics due to lack of interest/need and I was doing poorly.
I have 16 credits obtained so far, and 7 planned for this year. Has anyone ever used Virtual School? I plan on taking accounting in order to get the credit I lost by dropping physics, as well as to obtain the pre-req I need for Grade 12 Accounting.

Also, is Grade 12 really that big of a work load? Apparently 7 courses would be really hard to maintain, but I would like some of your opinions.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated on what I could/should do.

Thanks!

High school is a joke. If you're worried about Grade 12 courses, you shouldn't be going into business. the amount of work you have to maintain an at least average grade at a business school is much more than any other discipline. Of course, what I said is only true if you go to a top school like Queen's or Ivey where they'll work you to death to prep you for consulting/finance work hours.

I am sure if you go to a second tier school like Schulich or Laurier, you'll be fine. Those schools are like high school, except easier.

Looking back at high school, it did really seem like a joke. I spent the minimal time (well, for some courses) doing homework and still managed to get great marks. There were too many opportunities for marks and if you messed up on one assignment, it could easily be weighed out by other assignments. The exams were worth a measly 20-30%. Now that I'm in university, messing up on one assignment (not those 5% ones) could devastate my whole mark for the class.

7 courses in grade 12 is a good workload, but is not as much as some people say (people exaggerate this). I took 6 courses and every Tuesday/ Thursday, I had a 3 hour break between class in grade 12. Way too relaxing lol.

I suggest taking some courses in summer if you are free over the summer. Try to make your grade 12 workload six courses so you can distribute more time to each class to achieve the highest marks possible (without being overworked).

Grade 11/12 accounting is very similar to the very first accounting course you will take in university.

I also suggest grade 12 economics. It will make the micro/macro courses you take in university a bit easier to deal with. In my high school, there was no prerequisite for grade 12 economics. We did not need to take grade 11 economics (the same might go for you too as well).

Also, data management as well. Will make the introductory statistics course easier to deal with.

As I have repeated in many other threads, taking the AP version of the courses above will make your first year very easy (since its a repeat of the same material). If your school offers them, consider taking one.
