I suffered a pretty severe groin strain in September. It's been almost 3 months and, while I think it is very close to being healed, there is still a bit of pain so I can't run, bike, or ice skate. Being forced to be idle so long I know I'm in terrible shape, but I basically can't do much with my lower body because I'm worried I'll have even more setbacks in what has been a very slow healing process.

So does anyone have any recommendations for some kind of cardio I could do with pretty much only my upper body?

swimming is probably your best option. If your gym has an arm bike then that would be good as well (although I can't say I have ever seen one). Using a speed bag or hitting a heavy bag would be pretty good as well.

You could also steal a wheelchair and go racing around in that!

Also you can keep/start lifting weights for your upper body as well

That was my first thought.

If possible I'd like to find some activity that doesn't require any special equipment or a membership.

Not that it's upper body, but could you skip rope?

the wheelchair method is a great idea (not the stealing though). you can buy a used one locally and sell it again for the same price after you are done with it. although it will be hard to roll around the roads during winter with the snow and ice.

Something like this is an option, though it does cost a little bit of money.

You can also go swimming using a float under your legs. You legs just float there and your upper body does all of the work.

All you really need to do is move. You could just punch the air in front of you, lift your arms up and down, do the YMCA arm movements over and over again, whatever you want really. Doing it with a small bit of weight in your hands will make it a bit more effective.

You can't really do anything that fun or interesting without special equipment, but you can get your heart rate up.
