I'm wondering whether the monthly Netflix fee is really a good deal - how much data does Netflix typically use?

This is taken from the netflix website
Good quality (up to 0.3 GB per hour)
Better quality (up to 0.7 GB per hour)
Best quality (up to 1 GB per hour, or up to 2.3 GB per hour for HD)

Thank-you for finding that for me.
That could end up being quite a costly way to watch movies (depending on your deal with your ISP).
A couple of HD movies a day adds up to 285 GB per month - that starts to make cable look like not such a bad deal!

Not if you're on a provider that isn't terrible. Not that I'm watching 2 HD movies a day, but my 300GB cap on Teksavvy would do me just fine :)
That said, it is so freakin' smart for Netflix to allow for different qualities if you're conserving bandwidth. Maybe it's just me but I don't notice a huge difference between Medium and Low. A lot of the stuff I watch on there is older TV shows anyhow, so they don't benefit from being in HD and I watch at the lowest setting.

Teksavvy is going downhill (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/teksavvy-going-downhill-1093062/)

Yup, that one. Just because a couple of people have had issues, doesn't make it terrible. I've never had a problem with it at all and I pay a fraction of what most people do for internet, plus I have a 300GB cap and can watch all the HD Netflix I please. Feels good man.

Yes you get worst customer service with TS and there's the odd 3 day outage (I've had one in 9 months), but to get the same speed and caps (24/1 unlimited), I'll have to pay $500 more. To me it was a no brainer decision.

Agreed. I've been with them since May, so 7 months. I've had one 3 day outage in that time. Otherwise, it's been fine. And I only pay $35 or so after tax for a 300GB cap. Add Netflix for $7.99. Then add a home-made antenna for $7 (one-time) for news and hockey. That's $43 for internet and some tv shows. Do some DNS tricks for US netflix for $10 or so, and that's $53. As far as I know, the cheapest equivalent bundles from Rogers run about $100.

You might have, but that's not my experience. I've gotten nothing but the best customer service from Teksavvy and would go as far as to say that I've never had better CS from any other company in my life.
