Hi There

According to http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/replace.shtml, to replace a lost vehicle license plate, the following are required:

Replacing Regular Plates

If your plates have been lost, stolen or damaged, bring the following into a Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office:

-Replacement Declaration filled out by the owner and the police or telephone reporting - the name of the officer who took the report and the occurrence number are required (not required if both plates are being returned). Replacement Declaration forms are available at any Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office or local police department;
-the remaining plate if you have it;
-name of your insurance company and policy number;
-the vehicle permit (plate and vehicle portions);
-Application for Registration completed and signed (blank form available at the Issuing Office).

By the sound of it, I have to call the police to report the lost of the plates. Do I have to do it ASAP? I suspect the plates are still in my house but couldn't find it (kids may have hide it) and want to take a few more days to look for it. thanks.

Strange story. You have the answer from MTO.
Kids hid the plates inside the house? Did they remove them off the car too?
The reason MTO (read Police) want to know about lost or stolen plates is obvious...they could be used to commit a crime.

If you are sure you lost it, you can go to any police station and file a police report.
Do it ASAP because you may get pulled over and receive a ticket for failing to display 2 plates.

No, these are the new plates. The kids did not take it off the car. Long story, the registration was incorrect, went to the license office to sort it out but was given a new plate. Took it home but did not put it on immediately. The car is sitting in the garage, I drive the other car.

I will call police to file a report. Thanks.
