Anyone wanna recommend which movies to watch (that are on dvd/blu-ray)? I wanna catch up on some of the better ones but don't have time to go through a bunch. I wanna skip any horror movie...also action movies are good but only if the plot is good otherwise I prefer something more meaningful. Also, I have nothing against foreign films (as long as they aren't completely depressing, don't like depressing films) although I usually only enjoy European ones like Goodbye Lenin and a few Swedish ones. The one's I've already seen so far this year are :
Bridesmaids, Xmen First Class, Submarine, Bad Teacher, HP2, Win Win, Hanna, and I Am Number Four
They were all fairly decent except for I Am Number Four which kinda sucked and Submarine was a bit too slow. Captain America and Johnny English (if it's on DVD) so far are the only one I have and maybe a chick-ish flick like Friends With Benefits (seems to have good reviews). The change-up, Horrible Bosses, Crazy Stupid Love, and Idiot Brother all seem intriguing although these are already well-known movies, the better ones are often the less advertised ones.

I wish i too had watched more movies form this year myself. Some i will recommend
Source Code - fav movie of the year so far. Think of it as a Sci-Fi groundhog day
Limitless - a nice surprise with a cool plot and good acting.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - actually i haven't seen the whole thing, but enough from work to say SEE IT
Kung Fu Panda 2 - not as funny as the first movie, but more heartfelt
The Adjustment Bureau - it is a bit slow but i love movies that go against that "Its fate" type of love story
Attack the Block - ok it is a horror movie, but these alien creatures are just awesome to look at. Plus the movie is pretty good too
Paul - not as funny as Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz but still an enjoyable and funny movie.

Donnie Yen's "Wu Xia" is definitely one film from 2011 that you've gotta check out. To get a good idea of how the movie is like, it's like a mixture of several other films. It's like "A History of Violence" meets "The One-Armed Swordsman" and "CSI". It doesn't hurt on the fact that the one-armed swordsman Jimmy Wang Yu himself makes an appearance. He's gotta be one of the scariest on-screen villains from films coming out this year.
Then there's all the other stuff mentioned in the earlier posts of this thread.

I disagree, it was surprisingly well, and at times quite poignant.
I would recommend (DVD/Blu-Ray): Attack the Block & The Help as I believe both should be out now.

I really liked Hanna from this past spring. It's like an arty version of the Jason Bourne movies but with a little girl.

I can't believe Attack the Block is getting so many mentions. It's agonizing to watch, B-grade acting and plot with some ok CGI. My tolerance gave out and I had to fast forward the last 10 minutes to see how it ended (predictably, of course).

I agree with most of the listed movies in this thread....but here are some more I watched and loved:
Real Steel ...its like Rockem Sockem Robots with a Rocky story....one of the better movies this year.
Drive....it looks like an action movie...but is a very different movie with beautiful photography.
Troll Hunter....this is cool foreign movie.
Battle L.A.
Fast Five
Fright Night... I love the original.. And this was a nice remake...pretty entertaining.
Hugo
Kung Fu Panda 2
Rango
Super 8 (a throwback to beloved speilberg inspired 80s movies like The Goonies and E.T.)
Super (think of it as a grittier version of Kick- ***** with a middle aged man instead of a teenager)
A very Harold and Kumar Christmas (if you are into Harold and Kumar's stoner comedy style)
Your Highness....another funny medieval comedy with stoners.
Enjoy!
