You'll also want a lockable hard drive (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=137365&hl=lockable) so that you can connect to Xbox Live when your modchip is disabled ;)

Just wanted to be prepared when Halo 2 comes out. How do I go abouts doing everything so that I am Live capable. My hdd is a 160gb Maxtor, that lockable? thanks.
btw would have pm'd you but your inbox is full.

That lockable HD thing is slighly out of date for the newer model HDs. You won't really know until you try it. One Maxtor model I helped someone out with was listed as lockable there but none of the Xbox utils was able to lock it so YMMV. Western Digitals are quite lockable (stay far far away from Maxtor models, their Quality control is not so good) but they are very noisy.

Sorry about that! :o PM box has been cleared, so I should be able to receive messages now.
If your Xbox is modded, use a program called ConfigMagic to try to lock your hard drive. Otherwise, check the link I posted above.
You want to make sure your hard drive is locked so that your Xbox boots with the original Kernel (otherwise you'll receive an error while booting). DO NOT connect to Live with your modchip on - you will be banned (although newer BIOS's prevent your Xbox from connecting to Xbox Live with the modchip on, but older BIOS's were not so friendly).
