I am wondering how strict are they on ensuring a room only has 2 occupants?
I was planning on booking a hotel room at a 3 star hotel in downtown Niagara. We plan on having about 7 people in the room total. Has anyone ever ran into a situation where it would be a problem? Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Might depend on the place.
I stayed in a motel a few months ago and there was no enforcement at all.

7 in a room is a bit much. Hotels are governed by fire safety act so they will enforce their policy. If a room is only allowed 4 people then a 2nd room is required. Why would you want to stuff 7 people in a room- being cheap?

its a mixture of both, the hotels on new years are about 400-500, and on top of that, wouldn't be much fun having a drinking party if 4 are in one room while 3 in another.
The 2 hotels im narrowing down to now is travel lodge and courtyard Marriott

Go to the Hilton, and book a suite if you have that many people. It can sleep 6 comfortably, and it'll cost you about $200 a night. That's $30 each.

I have put 5 people in Motel 6 in Niagara Falls a few weeks ago. Just don't have 7 people walk up to the check-in desk.
My only issue with too many people in a room is when this happens: http://www.wellandtribune.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3402075

Totally depends on the place but 7 in a room is too much. THe housekeepers will report it to managers. I used to be a housekeeper in several hotels before college and any hotel above a 2 star doesn't want the typical hotel partiers and are strict about the amount of people. If you were putting 3 or 4 in this room you wouldn't have a problem
