View Full Version : How much room is there to negotiate with Goodlife/other gyms?

The membership at my current gym expires this week and I will not be renewing because it's location is too far from me (its not one of the major chains).

I'm looking for a new gym and the two ones that catch my eye are Goodlife and the YMCA; years ago I was a member of the Y but I stopped a few years ago. Goodlife is ~$20 bi-weekly at one specific gym/~$30 bi-weekly for all of their gyms but these prices require a 1 year commitment. The YMCA, is charging $63/month +$85 signing fee (which is a LOT more than I thought the Y would be and a lot more than I remember if being; I could swear it was half of that...).

Is there any room to haggle for a better price? It seems crazy to me that it'd cost $841 to use the YMCA's weight room for 1 year, and I'd sign with Goodlife instead but the 1 year committment is something I'd rather avoid.

Check out your local community center, and see what they have to offer.

Goodlife is hard to negotiate with. My Dad joined last year when they had the $1/day promotion and I tried to get the same promotion recently and they wouldn't budge.

I'm paying $20/bi-weekly for a Regional membership that gets me access to all the local clubs instead of just the one.
