My 4 year old Dachshund recently became very ill., and after researching I came across info about Waggin Train Chicken Tenders (bought at costco). Apparently there is an ingredient on them that is making dogs sick.. These are made in China and not the US as I thought.

Have any pet owners given these to their pet and notice anything abnormal with your dog?

We have been feeding our dog 1 strip per day for the past 2-3 weeks... Haven't had any issues or symptoms mentioned in related articles.

Although now we're a bit worried :S We figured this was a pretty healthy treat.

The ingredients say only Chicken Breast, Vegetable Glycerin no? (At work, can't see).

I thought it was quite healthy too since it lists just chicken as it's main ingredient and I was under the impression they were made in the US but they are actually made in China.... I just happened to stumble upon the information about these treats with an unrelated Google search, but I am glad I am aware now. I have since returned the jerky to Costco where I ourchased it.

I personally do not suscribe to the idea that everything coming out of China is automatically junk and deadly. Some of it is no good, but not necessarily all of it. I don't think I've come to conclude whether these are one or the other yet.

I think it comes down to how industrial standards size up, and how well they are enforced.

China has a reputation for poor health regulations, and an even worse reputation for selective enforcement of the ones that exist. That is not a place where you want to be buying food for yourself or your loved ones.

After fwd'ing this to Mrs. Stock, we both became paranoid and stopped giving our dog the treats. Decided to reintroduce it a few days ago. Diarrhea. Back to Costco the treats went. Was it the treats? Maybe, maybe not but figured it was better to not risk it.

Guy at Costco hasn't really noticed people returning them.

Fox News is known for their bias and sensationalizing. However in some cases "where there's smoke there's fire" I guess?

We've been feeding the Costco chicken tenders to our 3 dogs for a couple of years with no issues. But we might have to keep an eye on this as it develops.

That's exactly it. We were feeding these tenders to our dog for a few weeks with no issues (rather we quite liked them) but OP did some inception on us :P

in the story the person says "I know that it's not my fault." i disagree. this has been going on for a while now. anyone still using these treats is being irresponsible. i would never give my dog something that has been in the news for making other dogs sick just because it saves me a couple of dollars.

Read this before feeding your dog chicken treats. http://boldraw.tumblr.com/post/13222426367/the-cost-of-quality

My dogs haven't been sick because I would never feed them this stuff. Is it really a risk you want to take to save a few bucks?

News flash! OMG! Things are cheaper to produce in China! Who knew?

Our dogs haven't been sick because we do feed them chicken jerky treats from Costco.

That may or may not be true, just like your bold assertion above. But the logic is equally valid. One anecdote does not prove causality. Our dogs are OK and have been eating these treats for a while now. We have cut back on them just to be (more) safe until we hear more, but here in BC, nobody that we know has had problems with these treats and lots of people we know feed them. I'm not saying there aren't any problems; I'm just saying the sky does not appear to be falling right at this moment.

So you'd wait until your dog got sick or other people's dog got sick before you stop feeding your dog this particular treat? Oh wait, people's dogs HAVE been getting sick from eating this stuff.

Sometimes, symptoms of a sick dog doesn't show up until it's too late.
