Hi,
I got the XSi for a much cheaper price, not sure if I should return the T3i, how different are these two cameras? Is the XSi far inferior to the T3i? How do these cameras compare?
Thanks

Hi,
Is this going to be your first dslr camera? It's not fair to compare the XSi to the T3i because the T3i is 3 reincarnations of the XSi. If the XSi is substantially cheaper than the T3i & this is going to be your 1st. dslr, I would get the XSi. You might find that after using the Rebel size camera for a while, that you would rather be using a full size **D series camera. From a XSi to a "D" series, is a huge step up & you've got more money to put towards the new camera.

As has been mentioned, you may eventually outgrow the Rebel body. Something to keep in mind though is the T3i does a significantly better job with noise and higher ISO than the XSi.

If you don't need video, you could keep XSi as you can sell T3i for much more than XSi, the image quality of T3i at high ISO is much better, but not night and day difference, so it is really up to you, eventually you will want to upgrade at some point but you could upgrade XSi to maybe 70d by using some money you saved at the moment.

I'm an XSi user and the two biggest shortcomings of this camera when compared to T3i are
- LCD screen is not as pretty as T3i, you're comparing 200+k pixels as opposed to 1+ million pixels on the T3i
- Video capability
For me, these two features are nice to have but far from critical in taking good photos. Instead of buying more expensive body, I've invested in couple of lenses and still a happy XSi user :)

for myself, i'd say the limited ISO is the XSi's biggest weakness. 1600 is pretty grainy on the XSi. otherwise i'm still happy with my little guy.

Remember even after all this spec talk, in the end, these features are just luxuries.

Video and high noise performance are 'luxuries' I wish my XS had.
