Hi there,
Has anyone else tried Cheesewerks on Bathurst? We went tonight and while the food was good, the place was waaaay overpriced. For $10, you get a smaller than normal Grilled Cheese...
What did everyone else think?

Well did they serve plastic slices of cheese or was it an artisan handcrafted cheese ? What type of bread ? 2 slices of white bread or an artisinal bakery type of bread ? Was there a side dish or options?
Need more info. please.

They served all sorts of different sandwiches and was baked on local bread. However, I would say the sandwich was 2/3 the size of a normal piece of bread. The sandwich was $10, but that didn't include anything else.
Ketchup: $0.75
Lemonade: $3.00 (half ice)
Tap Water: $1.50
Chips $1.25 (really small bag)
Both my wife and I came home feeling like we could eat the same meal over again...but I wasn't paying another $29 for two small sandwiches.
I was just wondering what everyone else thought of the place.

Those are some insane prices, never heard of this place but that's the first I ever heard of someone charging someone for ketchup and tapwater.

A lot of reviews saying the same thing on Chowhound. Overpriced for what you get. Definitely on my "Avoid" list for now. I don't understand how a place can't figure out to do a grilled cheese restaurant and be successful. They could have lines out the door if they priced it right. If you want a good grilled cheese sandwich go to one of the cheese stores like About Cheese on Church street or Leslieville Cheese. Unfortunately no seating at either though.

I looked at their menu- says they make their own ketchup?
still with a $10 sandwich you should get some for free!
I would eat there once, but skip the drinks and chips unless they aremade at the store.

I have been to many restaurants that serve tiny portions of their homemade accompaning side dishes such as a garlicky or whipped savoury butter with their bread basket and do not think there is a separate charge.
Do recall a breakfast place that charge extra for a tiny serving of authentic maple syrup rather than that other stuff.
Love when the restaurants present those mini glass bottles of heinz ketchup/relish/mustard. or the fancy little tiny glass jars of jams/fruit spreads.

It was homemade ketchup...but it only lasted half my sandwich, so they are pretty stingy with it as well. My wife and I keep talking about the place...it has so much potential, but they just need to focus on giving customers quite a bit more value for the almighty $.

I remember one deli I used to get breakfast at twice a week and they charged .15 for a tiny kraft jam with your food.
The thing was I never knew they charged as there was one waiter there who liked me (I was a customer for many years..so he was always friendly).
And he used to never charge me for jam.
Then some other lady served me and I found out they charged for that....
