Is there a difference in quality between SanDisk and other cards, such as Kodak? I believe SD cards are really good but what about the other brands? Are they all the same?

Two of the most reliable brands are Sandisk and Lexar. Other brands can be hit and miss. Sandisk's usually have faster speeds and both brands are more expensive. Other brands can be hit and miss on reliability if you read user reviews online. (eg. on Amazon or Ncix) I'm a cautious type and don't cheap out on memory since I can't replace my pictures of the card were corrupted.

Is it worth paying twice as much for a SanDisk as a Kodak card?

Sandisk Extreme SD cards were on sale during Boxing week (16GB for like $27). It's built like a tank, shock and water proof and they don't flex like cheaper cards.

sandisk is probably the most reliable, although lots of fakes out there or ghostshift chips.
good post about fakes and 'official' fakes that pass verification

Buy from somewhere you can exchange if you get a dud. If it works I dont think you have to worry too much about failure down the road.

If your data or photos are worth more to you than the price of a Kodak card, then yes.
