I just got an email from Petro Canada and part of the content is:
"Plus, if you redeem PETRO-POINTS before February 10, 2012 you'll get a one-time bonus of 1,000 PETRO-POINTS!¹"
¹PETRO-POINTS will be applied to account on or around February 24, 2012. Limit of 1,000 bonus PETRO-POINTS per household.

I went to the site and found that I can donate 1000 points to Canadian Cancer Society or Support Canadian Athletes. The other < 1000 points reward aren't attractive.
http://retail.petro-canada.ca/en/petropoints/163.aspx?range=0_3000

So I think I can donate 1000 points and then get back 1000 for free. I couldn't confirm this as the points will be applied to account on or around February 24, 2012 as per the fine print.

??? Im confused. Why don't they just make a button for members to click that donates the points automatically instead of using your points and getting more?

The bonus points is not limited to points donation. You can redeem anything you want and get the 1000 bonus points. My thread was only saying you can get this 1000 bonus points by a good deed without really losing any point.

In real RFD spirit, could you get a tax credit for that donation?

Sorry, no tax receipt will be issued for donations of Petro-Points.
