the funny thing is that they always short change when they do a short pour....which always gets me upset..they should put a level line in the inside of the cup..

i heard from a timmy's employee that the price is the same for the same sizes that are currently available.. They are bringing in a larger size that will cost more..
small - same price - same amount
medium - same price - same amount
large - same price - same amount
XL - new price - new amount
maybe she's wrong :-0
edit: yeah the above picture sums it up.. nothing has changed. prices are the same for the same amount. It's only the name that changed.. welcome to canada

Not super hot, but at least you're getting more for the same price.
No you're not... For example: The old "large" is the new "medium", but the new medium is still the same price as the old large. Just the names have changed. You're getting the same amount of coffee for the same price as before. I've confirmed this with Tim Hortons on Twitter.
Nothing to see here people... Time to close the thread.

its the same price for the equal amount of coffee. so the new small is the same price as the old medium
livemink
Jan 17th, 2012, 08:44 PM
... new XL size and price, so the old XL is now a L- for the price of a large according to my understanding. So yea you get more for the same price...

You guys have it all wrong....
Next week when you order your medium coffe that you've always ordered, you will be getting and paying for what the 'old' large is. So, if you want your same medium coffee, you'll have to order a small, to get the same price, and same size as what you used to.
So, all thsoe who think "Tim horton's is sooo great, giving us more free coffee..." you're dead wrong. They're doing quite the opposite. It's a marketing and sales tactic. Ordering a "small" coffee doesn't sound very filling, or appealing, hence why you will prob order a medium or large, which in reality means you're getting a large or extra large. Smart marketing by timmies.

Price of a Medium Double Double is going to be a Large Double Double size.
I think you've got it wrong. They are just changing the name. Say if you order a Medium now and pay X dollars for it, after the change, you have to order a Small to get the same amount of coffee and pay the same amount X. If you order a Medium(after change), you'll instead get a Large(before change) and pay the price of a Large(before change). At least that's how I understand it.
So really no savings.

The name didn't change, the volume associated with the particular name did
To avoid confusion in the rest of the line, they should have just called the new 24 oz size "XXL" and kept everything else the same.
The "new XL" won't be "new" forever.

Inversely, the name associated with a given volume has changed. (i.e. a 250ml cup was known as a large, now known as a medium). Semantics.
FWIW, the price per unit of product did not change. Your new medium will cost the same as an old large.

Except that people don't go up to the counter and ask for a drink by the cup volume, they ask by size name.
FYI - the 250mL/8oz cup used to be called a "small" (now an "extra small") not a large (new medium) as you stated above. The old large (new medium) is a 14 oz cup.
(P.S. that's "conversely", not "inversely". Semantics, you know).

Ill get to the point. All synonyms are synonyms in their respective context. For example, a pupil is synonymous with a student in any school or academic setting. However, a pupil is not a student in a biology or anatomy context as it refers to a body part. Another common example is expired. My milk can expire and turn sour. Also, a person can expire and die. It is incorrect to say one's milk has died.
Wavelengths in a science or mathematical context uses inversely in a completely different context. You are transforming the word into a science adverb. Our original discussion referred to paper cup sizes, a far cry from science.

It's a method to increase profits.
Provide more sizing, it costs more to carry another cup size ... however, it also provides buffer to increase pricing across the board without people getting too mad.
In the end, they will increase their profits.
If you ask Timmies, they beat their chest and say "it's for the customers, giving them more choice blah, blah, blah ..." but in reality it's always self-serving.

The name change aligns themselves with a more similar sizing with McDonalds and 7-11. People have already associated Tims with having tiny coffees even though they are relatively the same as mcdonalds, only with a different name.
The new XL will simply be known as XL soon. I expect some people will have difficulty understanding the new sizing more than others, but they will eventually get it. You are the perfect example. Keep trying.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Roll Up The Rim when it starts on February 27, 2012! For as long as I can remember the contest included Medium (10 oz), Large (14 oz), and XL (20 oz) cup sizes. The Small (8 oz) was not included in the contest.
With the new sizing starting January 23, 2012, I know for certain that the new 24 oz X Large will be included, but the question mark lies above the 10 oz Small (currently Medium) cup. Hopefully they include it in the contest. I have a feeling that they may not include the 10 oz in effort to increase sales even more during roll up season.
It will also be interesting to see the new prize distribution. Up until 2006, Tim Hortons published a prize distribution chart among the three cup sizes and the larger the cup, the greater the odds of wining. Starting with 2007, Tim Hortons stopped publishing this chart and said that prizes were randomly distributed among the three cup sizes however, in the 5 roll up seasons from 2007 - 2011, it has been very clear that in terms of prizes XL>L>M. With the new 24 oz cup, it will be interesting to see if Tim Hortons adds additional prizes for the new size, or if they spread out the current distribution over the four sizes. We will have to wait and see...

This starts today - I'm underwhelmed to see that it is only 4 ounces more. If you're going to go BIG why not go BIG? Bump it up to 30 ounce like a trenta.
If I'm not mistaken the timmies in the US is already this size for XL, I've had it many times and it isn't a ridiculous amount at all.
The only thing I haven't seen yet is the pricing (guess I will tomorrow) but I'd assume that it is in the $2.00 range (XL is currently $1.80).
BTW, The new XL will have 240 mg of caffeine in it (vs. 80 in a redbull) so for those caffeine lightweights, you're drinking 4 redbulls with one XL coffee hahaha.

$2.19 here for the new XL. And MANY people were confused with the pricing/sizes. The only reason I went to Tim's this morning was to see this new "Extra Large" coffee. I am sure I read in the news that Tims was doing this in order to bring their sizing and prices in line with their direct competetion. As far as I remember, McD's extra large was still cheaper and bigger than Tims (old) extra large. So how does adding the new size but giving it a higher price, bring them in line with their competetion? Doesn't make much sense to me. *shrug* (Probably why I'm not a business major or something!)

That's right. you go to TOM HORTONS
Tom is related to Tim Horton. Neither have anything to do with the coffee chain "Tim Hortons". It drives me nuts when people say "Tim Horton" as in "I stopped at Tim Horton and got a coffee"
That all being said I only go here....

Yep got the new 24 ounce cups .
So the pricing didn't go up, just the names changed. You still get the same amount of coffee at the same price.

The price for the name "large" went up (as did the volume), but did the price for the size (mL) go up?
eg. how much did 16mL of coffee cost last week compared to this week? I'm 99% sure that almost every Tim's has kept the same price per mL.

That's because the size went up as well. If you wanted the same amount of coffee as you did last week, you'd now order 2 large coffees and those should be $3.57 (unless that location decided to increase prices).
None of this is about increasing prices; its changing the name of the cup sizes & adding a bigger size....

I tried an XL tea today. The cup is taller as advertised, but the cup felt kind of unstable (it felt like it'd tip over with the slightest applied pressure on the sides)
Good thing was I got it with the price of a L :D
