So I need economics (micro and macro) as my pre-req for a course i need, its an ids course, and they just touch on economic concepts a little. Ive tried to take it twice already and i just dont understand anything, ive tried to get tutors, extra help from ecoman, even the t.a of that course but i had to drop them because i was failing, and Im spending way too much money on this course. Now, i just feel as if I'm getting depressed because of these two stupid pre-reqs. Somebody told me theres a way you can take the course without having to take the pre-req.. Someone please tell me how to do that.. because i cannot sit in another economics class. I would just rather put money and time in the actual course.. rather than these stupid pre-reqs... someone please help :(

Only thing you can do is ask the IDS course prof to exempt you from the econ pre-requisite requirement.

Were you keeping up with your weekly readings?? You should have tried studying with someone or in a group- made it much easier.

@flamez1000

Would there need to be a really good reason to be exempt from the pre-reqs?

And i tired everything, studying with people.. getting a tutor.. I would think I understand, but when the exams would come around I would totally blank out. Econ is just not my thing.

Is this your last year? Is the course you're taking a program requirement? Those are points of leverage you can use when you talk to the prof. If it's not a required course, say you're really interested in the material and want to gain some exposure to it but you're not able to take two pre requisites just for that. I'm assuming it isn't a program requirement since if it was, the preqs are usually requirements too. You could use excuses (I changed my major so my current courses aren't flexible- I need to take so and so and so there is no room for the econ prereqs, or I'm applying to medicine and the application requires me to maintain courseloads at 60% year level or above hence I can't have more than 2 A levels in any one semester etc etc)

The only way out is to get the prof to say yes. And today's the last day to add courses, I believe. GL

Talk to your supervisor about taking ECMA01 and ECMA05. Those are not for Management/Economics students and I believe are not mathematics-heavy. These courses do not require calculus.

EDIT:
I looked at your requirements for the ARTS version: http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~registrar/calendars/calendar/International_Development_Studies.html#SPECIALIST_ PROGRAM_IN_INTERNATIONAL_DEVELOPMENT_STUDIES_B.A.

You can take ECMA01/A05.

I took A01 and A05 years ago when Furlong was the prof. Three mini tests and then exam. I scored B- on all three tests and worked my butt off for the final and in the end he took my final mark, ended up with an A.

If you have access to previous exams, study those, he uses the same stuff over and over just different numbers. It's like that for most A level economics courses though.
