I just found out Best Buy has an electronics vending machine set up at Toronto's Pearson airport. It's the only one in Canada right now but they have plans for more.

Just stick your credit card in it, and buy whatever, iPad, netbook, etc.
Returns and exchanges in-store.

My brother is taking a flight tomorrow and I'll try to have him find it and take a picture of it.
I wonder if you can PM at the machines :D

Cool idea. Saw them at JFK and FLL in December.

Sounds like a great place to use a stolen CC. What sort of safeguards are in place on it?

I've seen them at many US airports too. Prices are not so great, but it is a convenience machine. (Never seen anyone actually buying something off of it though.)
Thumbs down to the post about using stolen credit cards on it. I hope you're being silly or asking out of concern for the retailer. Even if it is Best Buy, we all suffer when a retailer has to deal with fraud.

Hes not saying he will use a stolen credit card.. hes saying that it sounds easy for people to use them.
So the items drop? Having an ipod/netbook/tablet drop that far isnt something i'd want.. even if theres padding at the bottom.

I'm not sure if the items actually drop in this machine or if there's some other mechanism, but I'm 99% sure they've been dropped numerous times on the trip that took these items halfway across the World. There's no way that every single person who handled the device treated it with 100% care; the packaging should protect it.

Wonder if you could line up in front of it for boxing day. Doubt the machine could hoard the products in the back and say it was sold out.

I rage when a $1 bag of chips gets stuck, and sure as heck would if a $300 item got stuck as well.

I wonder if they've had issues with groups of kids trying to rock the machine to jar a freebie loose...

I think they are pretty secure to the ground so they wouldn't be rockable
And if you try and smash and grab in an airport you are beyond stupid, assuming these are all only located after you pass through airport security :p

We have a couple at my work do this and I got a drink in a glass bottle from the top row in it, the drink ended up slanting forward towards the arm thing that it sits in and when the arm moved the drink got stuck. After it reset itself the drink fell and broke open in the bottom.
It was "out of order" for about 3 days and someone put "thanks to (my name)" under the OOO notice.

I think it's after going through baggage screening, don't think it's on the outside part of the terminal
Who knows though

I think It's out the outside because that way random people not even planning on flying can still buy from It!

Yes, those are the vending machines where it places the bottle on a conveyor belt that brings it over to a slot, it's supposed to be better but I have read that they are notoriously bad for getting jammed.

Maybe it only accepts credit cards that use a PIN.

yeah, i'm reeaally curious if those things are profitable. there's already a range of "travel" electronic retailers in the airports. do people *really* just impulse buy MP3 players?! these things are all over US airports, but yeah, i've never actually seen someone using one.

They are supposed to sell headphones, chargers, GPS, memory cards, digital cameras. A little more questionable are the .mp3 players and the iPads

This is a bit off-topic but I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this... if on bestbuy.ca it says "Sale Ends: 01/29/2012" does that mean it ends today at midnight or tomorrow at midnight?
Thanks :)

I remember passing the bestbuy machine in Terminal 1 last summer. Its located beside the Tim Hortons in the boarding area. So its only accessible by travelers.

I know this thread is a bit older, but looking at the machine, does it say: "Best Buy Prices' " ?
What exactly do the Best Buy Prices own?

I was going to say this is nothing new but then I actually looked to see when this thread was created and I can see that it wasn't created recently. I'm pretty sure that the vending machines have been there since at least 2010-2011 - I went on multiple vacations during that period and I remember seeing them.

would be pretty crappy to buy an ipad from the machine thinking it'll be something to do on a long flight. you wouldn't even be able to use it right away. it has to be connected to wifi or computer before you can do anything with it.

Does the Pearson airport have free Wifi? Vancouver does, activation shouldn't be a problem
