Anyone have dogs with allergies?
My 1.5 year old dog developed allergies about 6 months ago she itches her eyes so much that she has no fur around her eyes anymore!! she has recently started itching her neck and is developing a bald patch and also around her nose mouth area…..
i have taken her to the vet many times to test for different things like mange and everything came back normal they all told me its just allergies and prescribe me eye drops and meds for her i have taken her to about 3 vets to get second and third opinions and all they have said was allergies to something and prescribed her the same **** every time that doesn't even work for her anymore because she is amune to it. I have changed her food many times to different types different brands bought her the best most expensive food and treats and still Nothing….. It is not seasonal because it started this past summer and now we are half way through winter and she still is itching like crazy! I don't know what to do…. she itches the fur right off and then starts getting tiny red bumps from itching the bald spots!
Any suggestions…? I don't like seeing her like this.

This is a good write of if there is a possibility it could be your dogs food.

Have you tried any of those in their recommended list?

My dog gets itchy during the month of August. Scratches all over.
I thought it was flees/ticks at first. But after 3 years of having the same problem, I just figured it is the season.

Sorry to hear that. My 2 year old rotweiler had also experienced similar condition. One day, I notices a bald patch around her right thigh and she always itching the area. Then the bald area got wider. I also noticed around her eyes and neck area were starting to itch and noticed reddish marks. I went to the vet to have her checked and the vet said it was some kind of an autoimmune disease. Some breeds are at high risk. I remember, she ordered hydrocortisone drugs to minimize the inflammation and some vitamins. After a week of treatment, my dog got better. What a relief! :)

Our dog definitely gets seasonal allergies - gets really itchy and a bad rash on her belly. At firs thte vet thought it was food so we went through a long sensitive skin food trial that didn't really help.
Ultimately we just have to deal with it. She gets reactine once a day during bad times (on vet's recommendation) and it really does help.

Diet changes might help, definitely eliminate chicken from the diet, grain free dog food is good as well. Our golden-doodle licks her paws a lot less once the diet was changed...

The problem with alergies is it can be almost anything and testing all is hard todo and expensive and very trial and error.
1st things 1st does your dog have this daily, if so you are going to have to be very strict strict for 3-5 days and see if anything changes.
: No Treats.....
: Vacuum everyday ( could be a dust allergy )
: Food you do not mention what brand, so it could be cause by dry itchy skin as well.... can try fish oil drops or food with it.
: No air sprays or perfume in house used
: no basement or bathroom access ( as could be coming on contact with molds or bugs ( dust mites ))
: as well no sleeping in bed if allowed ( could be bed bugs not trying to scare you but trying to help you alleviate any possible issue )
: as well humidity in house, is house dry or wet moisture in air.....
If nothing changes over the week, you can assume its not the treats nor cleanliness of home. You will then after to start playing with different types of food, are you feeding wet, maybe try dry or vice versa.
Our ABBY had a yeast infection in ear( almost 2 years ), known issue with labs and other dogs with big droopy ears, we switched food, etc till was better, but still not best, we had to clean every 2 days, at xmas we received some milkbones i read the box and says give 2-3 per day.. oh well its a treat, use it up. Guess what ear only needs cleaning once a week now and 80% less gunk in ear.....I stopped for 3 days and guess what came back bad...... not saying its the cure but helped our ABBY and use out and weird solution found by accident. Vet says maybe her immune system and with whats in milk bones making it fight infection.....so now ABBY loves as gets milkbones daily treats.

There are more effective treatment options, each carries its own risks.
With dosage instructions from your vet, you may want to consider Benadryl (anti-histamine) or Depo-Medrol (immunosuppresant steroid)
For anti-histamines, consult a vet!! This chart is from Australia so use the active ingredient name to find the Canadian equivalent.

Before you start giving your dog drugs, please try to ensure the allergy isn't coming from the food. If it's a food allergy, it's very easy to eliminate that item from your dogs diet.
First of all, what foods have you tried?
I personally recommend switching to a RAW diet to try to figure out if the allergy is food related. You can switch back to kibble later once you narrow it down, but in the meantime, a RAW diet is really the only way to figure it out.
Start with chicken and chicken only. No treats, no kibble, just chicken. Food your dog anywhere from 3-5% of his body weight each day depending on activity level. Half raw meaty bone, half muscle meat (ie chicken breast, ground chicken). Yes, dogs can eat raw chicken bones just fine. Give it a week at least and see if the problem goes away. If not, switch to beef and beef only. Same thing as before. Give it at least a week. If the problem doesn't go away, it's unlikely the allergy is coming from the food. You can try another protein in case your dog is allergic to both beef and chicken, but that's probably not likely.

If it's seasonal allergies you can also try a tbsp of local honey per day, it has to be local though.
