Just drove past a new resto at Dundas st E near the 427

It's called Manchurian Madurai and advertises Indian Hakka, this sounds yummy. I wonder if they have a good chili chicken? Has anyone tried this place out yet?

This used to be the location for Captain's choice seafood.....

The closest landmark is *cough* Diamonds

advertises Indian Hakka, this sounds yummy.

I did some googling, this restaurant seems to be more Indian than Chinese (I know that sounds stupid). I also found an expired group deal for it, maybe there's a newer one somwehere. It seems to have vegetarian options and it says halal options (not sure if that means everything there).

The intersection you mentioned isn't Mississauga, I think it's Etobicoke (opposite end of the city for me).
But if you just want hakka food then there's a tonne of other ones in Mississauga Asian Wok n Roll, Royal Jasmine is actually not too far away from this one (Dixie/Matheson), and there's one called Chilli Chicken House on Burnhamthorpe/Creditview which is fairly good and inexpensive.

The only thing that concerns me about this place is that they said restaurant+bouquet hall.....and bouqet hall indian or hakka type of food tends to be low quality usually.

*cough* Diamonds and this new place are both in Mississauga. The border is indeed west of 427... but it's not that far west.

To me a lot of Hakka places do Hakka food well, Chinese food okay and poorly with Indian. This is a welcome change. I'm willing to try it out.

I found their menu: https://groupon.s3.amazonaws.com/sponsorship-imgs/Toronto/Manchurian%20madurai%20menu.pdf

Prices are a little high, but I also found a 10% off coupon: http://www.bellevision.com/Bv/index.php?action=add&type=91

I wish i could be the owner ...... My dream was to open a restaurant business here but in Toronto it is very difficult, that's what i heard. Back in my country Portugal, my uncle had a restaurant in Alcobaca. I worked my teenage and it was fun. My wife is from India and I developed great taste for India food. Only thing i don't like about India cooking is strong food smell.

This is a really great place for Hakka style Chinese food!!! I've been going to this restaurant for quite some time now and I usually go with friends or family.
Food is absolutely amazing, great ambience, awesome service, Good quantity, friendly staff, clean & cozy atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place, just go & check it out.

Here we go again with another restaurant owner using multiple accounts to shill...

I went there earlier this week and here's my review:

-Chili Chicken: Although I see more chilis than your typical Hakka Chili Chicken place, it was sub par. Too salty and not much meat.
-Butter Chicken: This tasted quite good, but the amount of meat was lacking. Lots of sauce which is good for dipping, but I got about 5 pieces of chicken in a sea of sauce.
-Chicken Pakoras: These were tasty and a decent size.

Overall the food quality is good, but not really any better than the Hakka places by the airport/Rexdale. However the prices are much more expensive. Expect to pay roughly 20%-30% more and get smaller portions. They threw in some complementary rice, but the rice wasn't enough for 2 people at all.

It's funny how both shills mention the ambience and atmosphere, as there is none. I went around 7:30pm - 8:00pm... that's prime dinner time... and the restaurant was empty! There was 3 cars parked in front including mine. Also it looks like they tried dressing up the place to look both Indian and Chinese, but you can still easily tell that it used to be a seafood restaurant.

I might go back for Indian (mostly due to ZERO Indian options in South Etobicoke), but not for Hakka. And really I'm only going back if in a rush. There are much cheaper Indian and Hakka places with just an added 10-20 minutes of driving for me.

My wife and I went January 5th, 2012 and thought the food excellent, though there were only a few other customers. We went again tonight - "Superbowl refugees" - and were relieved to find no TV blasting. Again had good food and good service -- and the place empty. We hope enough folks try this place out, because it would be a pity to have it fold up soon. We want to go back. They have a huge menu to explore, and a lot of it looked different from the standard Indian fare you get everywhere.

As to the authenticity of the cuisine, Hakka or Indian, sorry, we are unable to judge. But we've been eating Indian food for as long as we've been going to restaurants in Toronto area - 30 years? - and this place made us happy. Fresh tasting spices, not extremely greasy, hot about right for those acclimatized, and different dishes tasted totally different. Portion size? We ordered a chicken tika masala and a goat curry, a vegetable korma, nan and plain rice, and went through three mixed drinks. Bill came to $67 with tax but before tip, and we brought about a third of it home in little take-out containers because we could not eat it all. I think we can make a small meal for two tomorrow out of the remains.

Decor....? Well, it still looks like a Nova Scotia-themed seafood diner but with the hanging nets removed. There is a banquet area downstairs, and I can't report on what that looked like, we never got down there. Main floor: rugs, upholstery on some walls, brown and orange color scheme, small pot lights or small hanging lights over some tables. Rather tinny music playing, sort of mix of Bollywood and International idonnowhat, thank goodness not too loud. General impression of comfortable, quiet, private.

My sole complaint has been the menu color and font. It is written in tiny, fancy script using faint orange on the main entries -- which is impossible to read in their dim orangy light. Bring your reading glasses and maybe a flashlight.

Otherwise it is an asset to the neighborhood - we haven't enough of these places, and too many dull McChainstores on the "Golden Mile".

Try it.

Here we go again!

Shill count = 3

Does it have a chance at surpassing the likes of Big Fat Greeks Buffet with 10 shills (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/big-fat-greek-buffet-683552/) or Northern Provincial Grocers with 13 anti-shills (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/northern-provincial-grocers-790688/)?

Only time will tell....

I remember that thread, but never really read it because it was in Ottawa... but reading it now, it was pretty funny. The strange thing was the equal amount of 1st time posting shills and haters.

I wonder why you haven't shared any reviews of the many other restaurants you've visited over the 30 years and what was so special about this restaurant that you created an account to share your 'review' of this restaurant...something several posters in this thread have in common (and seem to think that those on RFD will be encouraged to visit because of these 'reviews')

Well now that the shrills have had their moment. I still have not tried this place and it's still up and running. In fact I think they have a new sigh.

And yes the nearest landmark is *cough* Diamonds!

Yet another hakka place in mississauga.

Mississauga is more becoming like a Hakkasauga. There is one in almost each strip plaza.

My wife and I went here recently. We're not fans of hakka foods, so ordered from the Indian side of the menu. I suppose if you enjoy something like Bombay Bhel in Mississauga, you may take a liking to this Manchurian Madurai. Bland, boring, creamy sauces. That seems to be the big thing at Indian style restaurants nowadays. How I miss the few Indian restaurants they used to have in Toronto thirty plus years ago, where after the first bite or two, the tears would be running down your cheeks from the heat of the curries, and you'd have to grab for a glass of water. Now what passes for a curry is just, well, wimpy.

It's gotten to the point where instead of going to one of these fancy restaurants, I'd just as soon go to a south Asian takeout and pick up a biryani for 5 or 6 bucks.

Karachi Kitchen and Desi Corner have good biryanis.

I tried it... I didn't find anything this place offered better than any other Hakka place. The only benefit for me is that it's closer than Rexdale, but more expensive.

Also I agree with Stryker... kind of on the bland side.
