Thought i'd share this with people as a warning/hear other's thoughts.

Bought some nvidia 3d vision glasses online from memx on january 13th as no local stores had stock. Received them january 17, found the right lens had a very large, deep scratch in them, and emailed memx to start an RMA the same night. It took them over a week to approve the RMA and get back to me, and i mailed them to them as soon as they gave me an RMA number. They received the RMA on monday and never updated me so I call them today, they've decided the damage I reported *as soon as i got them* was caused by me, and they'll only RMA them if they send them back to nvidia, which they say will take three+ weeks and nvidia agrees to reimburse them, which they can't guarantee. So best case scenario I get the product I paid for a month and a half after I paid for it with no compensation, worst case scenario I get nothing and i'm out 163$ after taxes and shipping. Worst company i've ever dealt with hands down. Anyone think i'd have success doing a credit card chargeback? When i was talking to one of their managers I said they weren't giving me any other options than trying to initiate a chargeback and he told me and i quote "Good luck, go ahead, they won't do it because it's physical damage"

Long story short I now have a board that wont boot with 4 sticks of ram and their stupid manager wont do a thing about it. **** him and **** the company. Will only use them for **** that cant go wrong that badly.

Can't you RMA to the company?

Good to know. Although I only use Memx as a proxy for price matching at FS or BB. I do understand though that there are many items that Memx sells that wouldn't be available at more mainstream retailers.

It's just not ME pretty much ALL computer parts retailer is like this.

If you want good service stick with big-box retailers.

In cases like this it's probably better to just RMA to the manufacturer.

Previously i've only dealt with NCIX, and i've had no problems with them with the 3 or 4 exchanges i've had to do over the years, so this is quite a shock. The thing is I can't even try doing an RMA with the manufacturer now because memx has it, and my money

if it physical damage nothing they can do.you cant prove it was like that when you got it, they cant prove it wasnt like that when you got it.
you can try asking them to send it back to you and deal directly with manufacturer urself.you should have sent pict with damage at the same time doing rma.they would tell you right away they wont replace it.

Looks like i'm actually going to have success with my credit card company, who knew mbna would come through for me, forwarded them the emails showing them i requested an exchange the day i received it and they were like, yup, we can reverse that.

The best way is rejecting payment thru your credit card company with a good reason. It will initiate a charge back to the retailer.

Mammary Express pretty much qualifies as a bigbox retailer these days. Their new stores have gotten fairly sizey and each one they open is larger than the last. Plus, they probably make more on TVs, audio-video and cameras now than they do on computer hardware.

In any case, dealing with a Future Shop or a Best Buy hardly guarantees you better return service. They all employ a certain number of jerks, and they all have a certain number of rather dorky policies.

Look at that guy in Vancouver who bought what he thought was in iPad from FS in a sealed box, only to find out when his fiancee opened it a few weeks later (it was a Christmas gift) that it contained a lump of clay. When he tried to return it, FS initially assumed he was trying to scam them and pretty much threw him out of the store.

I've only ever dealt with M.E. at their brick and mortar locations in Calgary, but they've always seemed quite reasonable about returns/exchanges. Interesting!

If you guys had good experiences than that's good. I never had bad experiences either. But being around RFD for so long I see a lot more "bad" threads about these computer parts retailers than most, and people should take note anyway. My point still stands.

And the reason is simple. They offer lower prices and the computer industry has much smaller margins. So they are less flexible when it comes to returning/exchange and such.

I've never dealt with their online store, but I've never had a problem RMA'ing an item to one of their B&M stores. I find their customer service to be the best of any of the computer hardware retailers.

I've had an issue trying to purchase some hard drives from ME. Was a really good price, $5 or so cheaper than newegg and free shipping. Emailed them a week after I bought them, wondering where they are.. they haven't mailed it yet. Waited a few days, emailed again saying if they haven't been shipped, don't bother. Got a quick response, acknowledging the cancel of the order.

I've had very good experiences with MemEx. I had a hard drive that died on me, still under warranty. They just did a swap in store and I was on my way.

Bought a video card, didn't fit in my case, brought it back, and the guy exchanged it for me on the spot as well.

I have a NetGear WNDR3700 router which has a dead 2.4Ghz radio. I bought it then went on a 2 week vacation. When I came back I tried to set up the router and realized that the 2.4Ghz radio wasn't working. Spent a few hours online with Netgear Support who confirmed that that the 2.4Ghz radio is DOA. I sent the transcript of the chat, the RMA confirmation from Netgear to Memx and then had to follow up with a phone call to get the RMA from MemX. They they will confirm that the router is DOA and send me a new one.

How does the RMA work? I pay for shipping back to Calgary and then they re-imburse me the cost of shipping? This is a pain in the butt - I shouldn't have been so cheap and just bought this router from a local big box retailer.

Chargeback with you CC company, since you returned the item i bet it will be approved.

For the reason, just say you were dissatisfied with their service or something.
