Why do you purchase things from online stores? Are these same items really cheaper? Enjoying the feeling of wating for the package? Enjoying the happiness for opening the package? Wanting to stay at home?

Tell me your reason.

I enjoy the feeling of waiting. Expecting some extra suprise from it!

1... better selection of clearance items/sales items/online exclusive items
2... likely find better deals. (stackable coupons)
3... don't like to go to a mall just to visit one store.
4... store doesn't locate near where you live
5... don't like the store much (could be based on a lot of factors... broke up with a girl working at A&F, so couldn't go there after)

those just off the top of my head here.

and yes, i do like shopping online.

Easier to buy something sitting in a chair. Rather than go out and b tempted to buy even MORE stuff or get stuck there while the girlfriend looks at othe stuff.

Not really contributing, but it made me think about when I heard a girl on the bus say how she loves to shop online, she just goes to the store to try things on then orders online.... I was shocked. You're IN the store, why not buy the stuff right there and then and be done with it and no shipping fee??? *sigh*

No sales taxes (if bought outside Canada) make the deals even better. If bought from a Canadian retailer (outside Quebec, in my case) many only charge GST and save me the 9.5% provincial sales tax.

Because it saves a crapton of money.

I would never buy anything online that cost the same or more than locally. That makes no sense whatsoever.

I buy online for a few possible reasons.

- if it's not available locally (PG has decent shopping, but not everything)
- if it's significantly cheaper (I'll pay a premium to help keep local B&M in business if I like them, but not more than 20 or 30%)
- if I have gift cards/credit to use up

I prefer to shop locally but sometimes it's just not practical.

Because online is the first place I look for anything. I don't like going to stores and just browsing and deciding what to buy in store. If I want to buy a new computer, why would I just wander into a Best Buy and tell the salesdude that I want a computer? I look online for reviews, I look online to see where the best deal is, I look online to decide which one to get... and since I'm already looking online, why wouldn't I buy it there? It doesn't make sense to me to find something online that I want to buy, know that it is the best price around, and then decide to go out of my way to go to a store and hope that they have some there. If there are nearby stores though I do prefer doing the order online plus in-store pickup because I hate the waiting part of online orders. If I go into a store, I have to know exactly what I want to buy, and that they have some in stock. Otherwise it's just a waste of time.

Online shops give us the opportunity to shop 24 x 7 and also reward us with a ‘no pollution’ shopping.
Cheap deals and better prices we can get from online stores.
Online stores always remember to send gifts to us on occasions like Birthday, Valentine’s Day and so on.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and sometimes it's easier to buy online than drive 45 minutes to the big box store and hope they might have what I want because in store inventory is not always right!

Amazon.ca when they have great sales.

Pixel Barrel because they are only an on-line store and are located in Canada so when I need Doctor Who stuff for my kids, it's just cheaper to order from them.

No pollution? Logistics networks emit huge amounts of pollution.

Because it is cheaper and it actually can be a lot cheaper sometime even after shipping cost.

I buy online:

Because I never have to go to the store to find out they are sold out. It's a big pet peeve of mine. Quite often when there's a good deal, when you get to the store its sold out. Buying online might mean a trip to the post office, but at least you know its at the post office. So given the choice with an identical price online or in store.. often i will choose online unless i really need it right away.

Getting things in the mail is a postive experience. I'm always waiting for stuff to arrive, so checking the mail becomes good when you know stuff might be coming.

prices. alot of the time i can find stuff online cheaper then in stores.

I get twice the happiness when I buy things online:
1) when I order, and
2) when I get the product.

Can't say the same if I'm picking it up in a store :D

I buy clothes online because it's a lot cheaper and I don't mind waiting. I don't like to browse around in-stores, online is the best way to filter out exactly what I need.

It's so much easier to comparison shop, consider what you want, filter results, and do research online.

You can't help but feel a little bit of pressure if you are in-store or even talking to someone on the phone. At some point you need to make a decision and get out of there. Online you can wait until you are totally comfortable in your decision. Read all the fine print, etc.

Add to that what other people said about hating being around other people ;)

One of my chinese good friends is asking me to help her post this, she is a quite responsible taobao assistant for she has been working for taobao.com as the customer service supervisor the past three years. And she has gathered a lot experience on shopping online. If you need, you can contact her directly. Her email is ritahelputaobao@gmail.com (mailto:ritahelputaobao@gmail.com) ;)

She can help you buy anything you want from www.taobao.com. And the service fee is low to 5% for each order. You can feel free to send her a list of products you want to buy, and she can help you communicate with the taobao sellers for any questions you want to know and help you get what you want easily. I think she can indeed help someone who need a lot, so i want to show this to you! Then the following is what she sent to me, you can have a look!

Service Fee : 5% (Our service fee is only on the basis of item sales price with home shipping fee, not including the international shipping fee)
Rate : 1 RMB = 0.16 USD
Our Advantages:
1st : You search anything you want on www.taobao.com. You can also use the Google Translate to see the site in English version, just check here: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://www.taobao.com/. And send me the URL links of the items you prefer. Tell me the color and size, and the quantity you want. With any question you want to know, I will help to communicate with the taobao seller.

2nd : I will ask the seller if he still has the product, bargain with him to see if I can get some discount for you, and ask him all your questions. In addition, I will look carefully about other consumers’ comments who have already bought it about the item you prefer, and give you some advice for your reference.

3rd : The payment can be divided into two parts. First part, you just pay us the items sale price, home shipping fee, and our 5% service fee. Second part, you pay us the international shipping fee according to the specific items weight and the shipping method you choose. I will calculate the first part fee in total and estimate the international shipping fee and tell you. When everything is OK, I will give you my Paypal account and you pay the first part fee by Paypal ( with paypal commission fee= 3.9%+US$0.3 ). I can give you screenshot showing how much commission fee the Paypal charge from us.

4th : When I receive your first part payment, I will place all orders on taobao.com ASAP, and it usually takes 4-5 days for items arrival to me. After I get them, I will help to check the quality and see whether it is a good one. I can help check particular points, if you explain exactly what to do. And I can also take photos on them and send photos to you by email if you want.

5th : When I receive all the items (if you buy from different sellers), I will ask the logistics system to weigh them. We can ship out your items by EMS or China Post Airmail or other shipping methods you want. You can tell us which shipping method you prefer and I will help calculate the actual international shipping fee. And then you pay the Second part fee, the international shipping fees by Paypal ( with paypal commission fee= 3.9%+US$0.3 ) and tell me your shipping address. After we receive the second part fee, we will ship out all the items for you immediately.

We will always try to provide the most professional and passionate service for you, and low service fee at the same time. Once you try, you will love us. :) Please feel free to contact me for any question you are unclear, I'm quite glad to help and waiting for your kindly reply, many thanks!

Best Regards!

Yours,
Rita Miss

Or if you have anything unclear, you can contact her directly or just tell me, i will ask her to contact you! Hope this is helpful, thanks! :cheesygri
