I wasn't expecting the sodium to be that high.

The Our Compliments and Pizza Pizza wings are between 4000 - 5000mg of sodium.

The sauce is to blame, but I still didn't think the numbers would be anywhere near that high.

And I wish there were more articles like this on the nutritional content of food from restaurants; the Dish seems to be the only Toronto one I can find.

Uhhh, sauce, as you already figured out. Chicken and it's skin sure ain't fat free LOL.
Every restaurant must have it's nutritional information available to patrons. just ask.

If you are worried about salt and fat, then you shouldn't be eating wings. Pretty simple.....

Either that, or you get the wings raw and bake them yourself.

My recipe:
0. Preheat oven 425 F. Assuming non-convection oven.
1. Get raw wings.
2. Dust raw wings with a light coating of white flour.
3. Grease a baking tray with "PAM" or similar cooking spray.
4. Spread wings on cooking tray, bake for 25 minutes, flipping half way.
5. Let wings cool for 5 mins.
6. Enjoy with Skotidakis Jalapeno Tzatziki yogurt dip (http://www.skotidakis.com/en/products/product-dip-jalapeno-454g.php). (Available at Costco)

Chicken Wings are my favourite part of the chicken especially when the skin is crispy. I could eat it every day! I also like Kelseys dry salt and pepper wings.

I notice alot of people throw the wings out in their cooking.

I hope you're joking.

Those wings look revolting.

I'm guessing chicken wings coated in buffalo sauce and not hot sauce or whatever have less salt (and probably more sugar)?

It's either that or you take the full blown amounts of sodium and fat from restaurants. I know some people that don't mind eating wings like that... not me though

Once i bought instant noodles from T&T and didnt look at the back of the pack. Once i got home i've noticed that the noodles had 189% daily value of sodium. Tossed it in the garbage right away..

Costco wings. Coat in olive oil, add salt pepper and garlic powder and place in here:

wait for two-three hours and get this:

90% of that will be in the soup, just don't drink the soup

Wings are the type of food where if you have to ask the nutritional content, then you shouldn't be eating it. Even if they were baked with no oil and zero sauce and spices, the wing itself is a part of the chicken thats less than nutritious. BTW, I love wings. I just make sure a run a bunch of miles the next day.

I wouldn't mind eating that, I'd probably add some herbs/spices to it. I guess when certain people get spoiled with artificial food, what's natural actually starts to look "revolting"...

You're eating chicken wings, not sprouts. They shouldn't be a regular part of your diet anyways so why stress about having too much salt and fat once in a blue moon.

These seem to be prepared in a "healthy" way AND they look appetizing. Nice job AudiDude.

See above pic. "Natural" doesn't have to equal revolting

Sorry Jucius Maximus, didn't mean any offence, just saying...

I think why those first set of wings don't look very "appealing" is that they aren't browned at all, like the ones in the second pic. If they spent the last bit of baking time under the broiler, they would look and taste a lot better :D It's deep frying that makes wings unhealthy; not the fact that they are filled with healthy saturated and monounsaturated fat and protein.

Thanks. It's actually the smoke that makes them brown. Those are hickory smoked so when you eat them, you'd think they have a sauce on them, but the smoke flaour is driven into the bone. The olive oil is the thinnest layer, so maybe for a pack of Costco wings, you'd use a tablespoon. This helps the garlic powder/salt/pepper stick and it keeps the wings moist while they cook. Sometimes I put in some cayenne powder for some heat. I used to do the same in a propane BBQ with a smoking box.

After the wings have changed colour, you turn up the heat to render the fat and then pull them. I start at 180 to drink in the smoke, cook at 225 and render the fat at 250.
