dubstep become huge in the past year.. It crazy that it's everywhere now. It's used in a lot in automotive videos all around the world now. Skrillex is helping the whole electronic/house/trance industry get into mainstream. He won a Grammy! I actually followed Skrillex from the start of his career. Soo many people bashed him lol. I think he's good at his craft. I prefer normal house though. Deadmau5, Aviici, Nero, Afrojack, Dash Berlin, Seastian Ingrosso, Alesso, Tony Junior, Laidback Luke, etc. Just to name a few. If you like skrillex, go listen to his first album. Then when you have listen to this :D.

Krewella > Skrillex imo lol. 720p it!

I don't really know what there is not to 'get'. As a huge fan of jungle/DNB myself, I've been listening to 'dubstep' for over a decade. It's just DNB slowed down to 100bpm and is part of many DNB mixes dating back to 2000 and maybe even before that. Some of the biggest dubstep producers like Noisia and Zinc started off making drum and bass.

People don't like Skrillex because he's too 'mainstream' just as many people hate on deadmau5 for the same thing. Like it or not, they're the ones introducing this music to many many more people and that's a good thing. Someone might say 'hey I've heard of Skrillex', listen to some tracks and mixes, and move on to more 'quality' artists like Noisia or Burial. Speaking personally, I've matured past a point where I hate something just because other people like it. Almost nothing Skrillex makes is objectively bad, it's just marketed well. Haters gonna hate.

Skrillex is an amazing artist. I don't get why so many people have to actively dislike him. Too me the weird thing is how dubstep is trendy right now. As someone whos listened to electronic music for what feels like forever, dubstep has always just been dubstep, ie just another genre of electronic music, but now its its like dubstep, what all the cool kids are listening to now.

dubstep has been hijacked by ****** brostep just like how house and techno have been hijacked by **** like david guetta and steve angello.... dubstep is suppose to be ambient and focus on space and sub bass not loud off key sounds that kids listen to in their white ipod speakers

David Guetta has unquestionabbly stylistically changed. His first 3 albums really are pop-house though. Now hes just top 40 pop. I imagine his live shows are still mostly house though. Don't know what there isn't to like about Steve Angello. Skrillex isn't even entirely dubstep though. Much of his work is hard electro. Some people even will argue to death that he isn't dubstep at all.

First of all, get off this fruity poppy remix-laden youtube artist finding 'DUBSTEP' and LISTEN TO DRUM AND BASS FIRST

Prolix, Raiden, Andy C, SKC, Dillinja, Mampi Swift, Renegade Hardware. Make sure you have good quality headphones like Sennheiser, Grado or even Portapros ... or atleast a subwoofer, and crank it. Ride the bassline. There is a reason its called 'drum' and 'bass'... There's intro (drum track), bassline drop, middle, next bassline drop...etc... Mixing sounds together into one continuous set is the work of DJ. Skrillex and the like are really DJs by trade, and making the tracks for commercial release is just for fun really (and hollywood$$$)...
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _

Skrillex CREATES dubstep tracks, but his overall 'genre' of *music* is electro(dub). He has maybe 6 songs that are dubsteppy.

You HAVE TO see him LIVE IN CONCERT to understand the hype. Absolutely skull crushing bass that is more DUB then electro most of the time. Very, very heavy.

I saw his WEMF set and was absolutely floored. He took the weekend away. He dropped Nero - Promises --- GOOGLE "Promises Skrillex HD" around 2am @ WEMF... HOLY MY GOD............................................... ....................

Check out his setup. He CREATES the music live using samples/loops/etc using audio pads and synths, etc (not an expert on terms, but I know how it works).

He's a total gimmick, and image leech right now, but he knows music that's for sure. Alot of people *hate* because of some genre battle and image thing. See him live and just enjoy music and a great time.

I'm sorry, what? Drum n' Bass is far from dead. Try not listening to what the kids listen to and you'll be enlightened by the epicness of releases this year. John B, Rollz, Sigma, D Minds, TC, Fred V, Camo & Krooked, Counterstrike, D Bridge, Netsky, etc etc etc have all dropped monster tunes this year. Even Tech Itch is in on the action ( clicky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_34THCoA0I) ). Heck, I know someone who just got signed to RAM a few weeks ago.

As for Skrill, no need to hate.. he's just doing what old school DJ's used to do from scratch. I'm not even sure if I would consider it real dubstep, that's just what the mainstream seems to have labelled it. It's an insult to true Dubstep producers like Rusko, Russo, Monty, Doctor P, etc. But in the end everyone should be thanking Skrillex for what he's done for the scene, MANY incredible producers have taken cues from him and IMO pulled it off far better then him. Right now The Chaotic Good ( clicky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDm6WTj_qTM) ) is someone I'm watching closely. Heads up!

drum and bass is dead when it got way to agressive for its own good, it was only ever good because of its jungle influence, once they got rid of that it kind of went to hell, then a lot of of people moved over to dubstep to fight away form that, now it is all coming full circle with the whole "post dubstep" housey jungleishly juke whatever u call it these days, but a lot of crap as been passed of as drum and bass like anything from UKF dubstep of D&B which is all crap

lol hope I didn't open up a can of worms here. I have no idea who this Skrillex is, I was reading my most recent edition of Men's Health and they said the three artists you should be aware of (and might do big things) for 2012 is Wiz Khalif, Adele, and Skrillex. I'm feeling Wiz and Adele so I'm somewhat under the assumption that Skrillex has some pretty good tunes as well.

Edit: just went through some of the YouTube videos y'all posted. Wow this $h*t sucks...What am I doing wrong? Do I need to be on MDMA to actually enjoy this? :D

It's called evolution..

it was only ever good because of its jungle influence, once they got rid of that it kind of went to hell, then a lot of of people moved over to dubstep to fight away form that,

The jungle influence is still very prominent in recent releases. Don't let a few newcomers skew your opinion of the genre..

now it is all coming full circle with the whole "post dubstep" housey jungleishly juke whatever u call it these days,

"housey jungleishly juke"? You mean Breaks? You can thank producers like DaVIP and Kid Digital for that. Breaks IMHO is the future of electronic music. Way too many people fail to recognize Breaks as the genre when they listen to a track.

A significant portion of my music is electronic, but to me, Dubstep is just noise a robot makes during its pre-suicidal mental breakdown.

It sounds like the computer it was mixed on crashed half-way through and instead of saving the music to the file, it saved the contents of a scrambled memory dump as audio.

I think of it as basslines gone right and have done a little tinkering with the tracks myself (not professionally, but I know my way around production software). I admit, that last post of mine was just as terrible but proclaiming something as a mess is pretty short-sighted.

If you were ever a fan of DNB and can't find any dubstep to like, I feel bad for you son. Not gonna lie, a lot of dubstep is garbage but as with every genre, there's lots of gems in there. How can you not love Noisia's Machine Gun (www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Waqn0jBG58) or, on the more melodic tip, Flux Pavilion's mix of Cracks (www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8T-mUUuaWo)?

Shame you'd be so short sighted when it comes to a YT channel, you'd be surprised to find out who runs some of those channels.

As for RA, I've been reading it for almost a decade. But my knowledge and experience comes from being involved in the scene long before there was an RA. Infact if you were raving in the late 90's you've probably seen me live alongside some of the most legendary DJ's/MC's ever.. so, yeah. Get over your sense of entitlement.

I'm 19 and Skrillex sounds like **** to me. I mean even my friend who said it was good has become bored of it. It's extremely repetitive and ******** sounding. You need to be drunk out of your a$$ to understand the rhythm. I'm super into electronic music and there's way more better sounding songs out there with awesome rhythm and a variety of tunes. This is like the lil wayne of electronic music.

I love Skrillex, I have followed him for a while now, and although his first two albums were not my cup of tea his latest work is more my style.
A good showcase of his music are the live sets that he throws down at clubs. Here is one of my favorites this is a bit old though (there's a bit of chatter in this, but that aside it is pretty good) http://soundcloud.com/alphanu22/skrillex-live-ultra-2011

and as a little something extra a Skrillex inspired orchestral suite
