I have been trying really hard, and I can't even seem to get an interview or call back. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Finance, I have completed both IFIC and CSC, and have all the requirements in the job posting, yet I always get that generic email that says my credentials aren't enough or my credentials are of interest but they are pursuing other people. I really want to start my career off, but I am having no luck. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

maybe it would help if you can talk about your background/experience and even post a resume for someone to critique?

They get 1k+ applications for every posting so your chance of getting called back without knowing someone on the inside is virtually zero.

The only times banks have called me back for interview was when my buddy who worked there referred me, and even then it was maybe 5% of the time.

What kind of jobs are you applying to?
What school did you graduate from?
Any relevant work experience?

OP reminds me of those clueless students at my school

I ask them "what do you want to do?"

Clueless: "I WANT TO WORK AT A BANK"

Me: "Ok, what position/field?"

Clueless: "IDK I JUST WANT TO WORK AT A BIG BANK"

@OP: Seeing as how you have BBA in Management and Finance, my best guess is you that you went to UTSC, no?

And online job applications are a black hole, just saying.

Especially when you are lacking credentials + dont know anyone that works there.

This.

Lol at this. No you haven't.

Get out and network. I don't understand why anyone would believe that sitting in front of a computer and sending applications in, like thousands of other people, will get you a job. No offence, your resume and experiences are just like everybody else's. Attach a face to that resume - network.

If I were the Hiring Manager, just for taking the CSC and IFIC both together, I would chuck your resume straight to the can.

"Banking" is such a broad term. What do you mean exactly? Working as a teller? Investment banking? The latter requires a super high GPA, connections and the "rock star" factor as the condescending nerd rangers on this site like to say.

Chances are you're just an average schlub like every one else, with a mediocre GPA and a business degree, just looking to start somewhere in an office environment.

It should be relatively easy to find basic entry level jobs in call centre/administration departments of banks that pay $15-$18+ an hour, even by resume spamming. Turnover is relatively high. Hiring ramps up in the fall, in preparation for RRSP season. Going through agencies and speaking French should help you land a job quicker. CSC/IFIC (IFIC is shorter and only takes a few days to study for) may get your resume noticed but is hardly ever required.

Not really.

My gpa is average, though maybe it's different for big banks (I intern at MM)

Not trying to be an ***** but has OP tried changing his name on his resume to "John Smith" or something along those lines as opposed to "tharssanv"?

The name "tharssanv" may not work quite well in a sector dominated by rich white guys who light up their cigars with $100 bills..... you'll have better luck trying to get a job with the government. More secure and better pension than any bank job.

Just sayin.....

To be honest, the only way you could ever get a financing job at Big 5 (and half) with average GPA is to know someone working there. If the person is in a position to refer you for a job, then you are likely to get an invitation for interview and your GPA and experience won't matter too much.

If you don't know anybody, then your best bet is to start as a teller and work your way up in the retail side of the bank. With a degree in finance, it doesn't have to be a dead end job.
