Is it safe to use my AMEX to sign up for a gym?

I had a bad experience giving my banking info to premiere and they would siphon money from me.. also kept billing after i cancelled.. I know the best bet is to deal in cash only, but how is credit card?

The only real info the gym gets is my first name. I use a fake last name and fake address

Gyms are all scumbags ... Even the "good" ones.

I've never been to a gym that really insisted on ID when you offer to pay cash. I've done this with premier, good life and a small local place.
