I ordered 2 blu rays from futureshop. Total $30.43 on Mar 2nd.

I applied 2 giftcards at check out, 5$ and 22$, and billed 3.43 cents to my credit card.

on Mar 4th, I noticed my CC has been charged 25.43, and the order screen shows the 22 gift card having a balance of 0 and not applied, I emailed support to find out whats going on.

On Mar 7th, I call because I didnt get a reply, and the guy doesnt know what to tell me, says he is escalating the issue.

Today, Mar 12, I send another email stating if its not resolved by the end of the day I will do a chargeback on my card for 22 bucks of the 25.43.

I just got a reply stating

"When we have to investigate an issue like this it can take some time to complete. Our system indicates that the balance of your credit card was used on March 2 and to investigate why that is what is being indicated takes the involvement of several departments, which can take some time to coordinate. I am sending a request for an update of this investigation and asked that you be updated on our progress at this point."

So to summerize, my 22 dollar gift card has 0 balance, my CC has been charged 25.43, and i have 2 blu rays that are arriving today that should have cost 30.43 but im currently out 52.43

this and the other issue on here in another thread is the reason i will never use gift cards for anything. i find them more of a hassle when you can simply find what you want cheap if you google things and look around... in person cash works way better and on the net CC or a prepaid CC (if you look at some of the online coupon sites you can save between 10% - 40% which really brings the costs down).

so many people buying cards that when trying to use them have little or no such balance because of a system error or some glitch then you are SOL till it's resolved or you get screwed because said business decides it was your fault and not theirs.

just use cash or CC....

if you have to wait for more than 3 days to get a result on your status then just refund everything then go and deal with the gift card issue. then dump it on someone else to worry about...

that sucks....I rarely look at my receipts.

ask them for a timeline other than that I think you are at their mercy. You could call your CC company but in this type of scenario I doubt there is something they can do for you (try anyways) and they will give you the timelines that they can help you within.

tell them you want gift card back period. Don't go with the credit card, they need that process. But gift card is like cash and future shop stole it from you.

Let's just relax with the whole "They stole" from you idea ..

I had a similar thing happen to me with BB, except in my case, the balance from my giftcard ($250 worth) disappeared and they didn't have a record of the payment. I called in, spoke with someone with some common sense and he opened a case for me and told me a supervisor would call me back. Nobody ever did, and I was too busy during the week to call. Then, one day before I was about to call them again, I checked my gift card and all the balance was there.

I am not protecting the company in this case .. I am simply saying to give them some time to figure out what the problem was. Computers do all the work now days and it is not as simple as doing a few clicks to get a resolution.

Your CC, depending on which one you have, will have dispute rights up to almost 4 months.

Get it back. On your receipt do you have the beg. bal. for the gift card? If so then they show it to Future Shop ask for cash back. If there is no poof the card had any values before the transaction then you are out of luck. When I use my, I always see it how much it has and how much it is charged. Too bad you didn't look at the credit card charge when you sign for it.

This was an online purchase, it cleared listed both giftcards and my CC on the purchase screen, but now it shows 2 gift cards, 1 of which with 0 balance, it wont even let you apply a 0 balance card on an order.

There is no signing of anything, I authorized a 3.xx purchase on my card, not a 25$ purchase on my card.

I think i will give them 24 more hours and start a charge back.

Do you have an earlier version of the order confirmation email from FS that shows the first price with the $22 from the GC?

The emails they send dont show those details, just telling you to login to the website.

Is there a reason people seem to be so eager to jump on chargebacks? Your case is weird because you're saying they 'stole' the contents of a gift card.

More than likely on mar 7 when he 'escalated' your issue he either forgot to do it or it was passed to someone who was on vacation or some other crap like that. Then when you emailed yesterday someone realized their mistake, put it forward to be reviewed, and sent you a 'please wait'. message. just call back each day and request and update. see if the customer service rep can even explain your own complaint back to you based on the notes... if they can't, you need them to wirte better notes in the case.

Dont get mad, just try to get your info in there.

OP can do a chargeback on the unauthorized amount over the $3.xx that they originally used their CC for. they just need to go into the bank and fill out a form explaining what happened.

the bank will then reverse the charge on the amount above what the OP agreed to.

update on this issue.

I got a VM from someone at futureshop and said it will be taken care of and i will have the money back shortly, this was around 2 weeks ago.
I recieved a gift card in the mail a few days later for the missing amount, with no note or explaination or anything.
I send an email stating i dont want this gift card, i want my money back on my credit card, i get a reply 9 days ago that they are issuing a refund.
Today, still nothing, I sent an email saying i have started a chargeback on my card, and requesting a call from head office, and if they want the products back, they can come pick them up.
I dont get a reply, i simply getting a RMA notice, and telling me I will have to pay for shipping.

What a gong show.

So in summary, since this started almost 4 weeks ago, i have had 1 vm from futureshop, and around 4-5 emails, most of which stating they are working to resolve my issue.

I also opened a BBB complaint today, since last time i had an issue with them, this was the only way to get it resolved.

What is a charge back? I understand the refund, a reversal of charges, but how can the card holder do a charge back?

So now you have the items, a new gift card of $25 and the money back on your credit card?

Interesting...

yessir,

however, i did tell futureshop they can have the items back at thier cost, im refusing to pay for shipping even they claim they will reimburse me, i have lost trust in anything they say.

They can take the 22 bucks off the giftcard for all i care. Not my problem that they cant get thier act together.

Why do people have to try and do a charge back right away without giving some time for the retailer to figure it out!? This could have easily been an honest computer error or a glitch in their system. The most you can do is let them deal with it. No need to be so anxious over $25.
