View Full Version : Hemorrhoids or something more serious?

I was bleeding from my anus a couple of days ago but it completely stopped. I've heard that it's quite serious and the doctors just send you to the ER but will they be able to "find" anything now that it'd stopped? Should I still see a doctor or would it be a waste of time right now? Anyone with a similar experience?

seriously?
go to a doctor ASAP
i would think hemorrhoids themselves are a serious enough issue without worrying what else it might be
you pay taxes to be able to walk into any clinic and see a doctor for free - take advantage of it

If it continues to bleed than yes, you would need to see a doctor or physician but since you said it stopped I wouldn't bother.

Still get it checked out if you have other symptoms though asap.

Why do people come here with their medical issues? Go to a doctor. It is what they are for. You expect to get an accurate diagnosis about your bleeding bum from people on a forum that offers cheap deas.

Don't bother going to the ER. Go to your family doctor, and he/she will perform a physical examination to ensure nothing is wrong.
It's very likely nothing to worry about

If it was a lot, as in gushing that you should see immediate attention, if it was just something you noticed after cleaning up the primary risk is infection. You should see your family doctor or go to a local clinic. The last time you had a movement did you need to be forceful? If so you may have just been a little too forceful.

Your name is napolean - definitely hemorrhoids then.;)
Get them treated or you will loose the war. A change of your user name may help here.
- a joke, I most certainly hope you are healthy. Running this by the dr is the reasonable thing to do.

anal fissure.
+1 on anal fissure. Although more common in infants, it can happen at any age. It's a tear in the anal membrane. Think of an anal fissure has cracked lips but on your butt hole. It's usually caused by beer can sized dumps from a night of drinking or over-zealous wiping. Like if you have OCD and need to use half a roll to wipe before you finally believe it's clean.

A diet high in fibre will help with this, if this is what you have.

If it is an anal fissure or hemorrhoid, the blood should be bright red.
If it's coming from higher up in your intestinal tract, it will be darker. Also see if it's mixed in with your stool or comes out independent of your stool.
Most likely an anal fissure will have bright red blood that does not mix with your regular stool.

One of the unfortunate 'benefits' of hanging around in OT is that you learn a little too much about some people's personal business and problems.

If you are going to see your doctore, make sure you look back! When the doctor is examining you, he needs to poke inside of you to determine the fault. Make sure he is using the right "instrument"!
With all jokes aside, go see the doc. Do not be afraid. It is better to find out now than later when it could be worse!

True, and the next time you get a headache it could be a brain tumour. Both are very unlikely, unless the OP left out details. Usually with colon cancer a bloody anus isn't the only symptom. By the time it's bleeding, there are often other symptoms. With that said, it's definitely worth a trip to the doctor to be sure.

Actually Shaner, blood in the stool is one of the first real symptoms of colon cancer that makes folks go to a doctor...

Is there a lump near your anus? That would be a hemorrhoids if you're hurting to sit down. Blood is pretty normal.
Consider changing up your diet. Include lots of veges and grains for the time being just so going to the bathroom isn't so rough on your roid. Get lots of fiber and if you're not getting enough from foods, get the Metamucil.
Also, I would suggest you to not to wipe anymore, but to rinse with water so there is less irritation and friction. Just stay away from making it worst by poking or engaging it activities that require movement. Rest and diet is key, if not, surgery for you.

+1 but also -1 because giving some knucklehead information that might prevent them from seeing a doctor about it is not good. I used to think seeking legal advice on RFD was the worst thing to do......
Ontario has telehealth you call in and get medical guidance from professionals....does Alberta have something similar? If not just go to the doctor and tell them.

Hmmm - what can I say? Bleeding from the butt sounds painful and scary! Are you sexually active with your butt for example? Did you eat something weird perhaps?

look like you need to get a colonoscopy where you need to lie on the OR table with your legs up in the air on stirrups. Either you can go get gassed up or they inject your spinal column so you don't feel the instrument they will insert up your anus and check out all the inner lining of your intestines.
if it is just hemorrhoids, just have them cut them off as you don't want this to happen again.
if you are low on fiber take metamucil to ease the bowel movements.:D
